Best shooters honoured
The Mount Gambier Gun Club held its Christmas competition on December 14 in fine conditions with the sun appearing most of the day and the shooters obtained some commendable high scores.
The opening event was the O’Connor and Graney 25 Tgt Christmas Double Barrel Championship.
This competition was shot with great accuracy as the competitors were eager to win the premium legs of ham that were on offer.
Many shooters attained perfect scores and after numerous shoot offs eventually the winners were Don Pratt 37/37 in top form won AA from Max Medhurst 36/37 and Warren Lindner 56/57, Steven Chambers 58/58 just outshot Ken Atkin 57/58 and Nicola Dunn 24/25 to win A , Brian Smith 41/41 edged out Heath Telford 40/41 and Mick Little 27/28 to claim B grade, and Garry Allison 35/36 just out shot Scott Hetherington 34/36 and Mick Rudd 23/25 to win C grade.
The Koonara Wines 20 Tgt Side by Side special event was shot with great enthusiasm as the shooters were eager to win the top selection of premium wines available.
They had to use the old side by side barrelled shotguns with which they rarely compete and shoot offs were again the order of the day.
Don Pratt shot a perfect 20/20 showing his accuracy won Overall and AA grade from Warren Lindner 26/27, with a score of 18/20 Ken Atkin won A grade from Scott Fleming 19/23, Stuart Bowd 19/20 just edged out Heath Telford 18/20 to win B and Elizabeth Rymill 20/24 narrowly won C from Peter Klieve 19/24.
The Dunn School of Shooting 20 Pr Deauville Doubles also required a shoot off with the combination of Peter Klieve and Mick Little 27/27 just outshooting Dennis Blok and Harry Brown 26/27, followed by James McKinnon and Gavin Height 21/22.
The Annie Oakley special event sponsored by Tom Megaw was eventually won by Brian Smith.
The Black Crow Club gained another member – Rolf Bugden..
The South East Autotrade Highgun Award was won by Don Pratt with a perfect score of 45/45.
The 2024 yearly Club Aggregate was successfully won by Gavin Height and the South East Autotrade Yearly Highgun Award was won by Andrew Hoare being the most consistently accurate shooter over all of the events this year.
The next competition will be the 2 Day Supershoot being held on January 11 and 12.
