Big hitters continue to dominate diamonds

Millicent v Tigers

After a scoreless first inning in the Division 1 baseball game played at Millicent against Tigers, the Bandits were under way in the bottom of the second.

Josh Vanderhorst singled to centerfield followed by Tom Winkley who singled to rightfield.

Jack Hately’s single also to rightfield saw both runners cross the plate.

Four more were added in the next dig. Darcy Pink hit safely to centerfield, Josh Vanderhorst picked a base on ball, Anthony Mutton’s safe hit to rightfield scored Pink, Tom Winkley was hit by the pitcher loading the bases. Saxon Altschwager then bunted safely down the line forcing Vanderhorst home,

Jack Hately’s timely clip out to rightfield scored Mutton and with bases again loaded Jordan Johnson was thrown a walk pushing Winkley across the home plate giving the Bandits a six run to nothing lead.

That however was short lived as Tigers responded in the top of the fourth tying the game.

A single to Cameron Scott as he hit safely to centerfield, a walk for Joe Sims and then consecutive safe hits to Matt Thompson, Dyllan Lane, Jake England and Riley Rolph saw the first four batters home.

Kobe Stratman was hit by a pitched ball then both he and Rolph added to the score on consecutive wild pitches.

The Orange and Black added two more in the next inning to go ahead in the game.

Matt Thompson was hit by the pitch followed by Dyllan Lane who hit safely to rightfield, Thompson crossed on Riley Rolph’s hit into an infield out while Lane scored on another wild pitch.

The Bandits reduced the two-run deficit by one when Darcy Pink crunched a pitch to rightfield and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Tigers stretched the lead out again in the top of the seventh adding three runs.

Matt Thomson hit out to leftfield, Jake England picked up a nice safe hit to centerfield as did Riley Rolph which batted in Thompson, England was batted in by Will Merchant and Rolph crossed on an error at first base.

Three more in the eighth put them in a pretty secure position. Matt Thompson again on base, this time from a base on ball.

Dyllan Lane’s Texas Leaguer to leftfield fell safe, Thompson crossed on a wild pitch, Jake England drew a walk and Riley Rolph’s single to centerfield batted in both Lane and England giving Tigers a fourteen to eight run advantage.

Millicent added a couple of consolation runs in the ninth. James Fleming hit safely to centerfield, Jordan Johnson found himself at first after his hit third base brought an error and both those runners scored on Nick Cory’s hit deep to rightfield.

Tigers had 12 safe hits, 9 walks, 2 hit batters, 9 runs batted in, 9 strikeouts and made 2 errors. Millicent had 20 safe hits, 3 walks, 3 hit batters, 9 runs batted in, 4 strikeouts and made 1 error.

Central v South Indians

South Indians were opposed to League ladder leaders Central in the game at Blue Lake Sports Park and they got off to a dismal start having 14 opposition batters go through the batters box in the top of the first with four walks, three safe hits, four errors and Central scoring 10 runs giving South a lot of work to do to stay in the game.

t all started with Kyall McClean on board on an error, base on ball to Nathan Meinck and Dylan Chuck, a safe hit to Alex Ridding that scored both McClean and Meinck.

Consecutive wild pitches saw both Chuck and Ridding home, consecutive walks again to Dylan Gull and Dave Harris saw them in scoring positions.

Colby Muller stepped up to the plate and blasted a stand up three bagger to the leftfield fence scoring them both.

Bree Ridding then on board due to an error which scored Muller, Cooper Smith singled to centerfield, Kyall McClean’s sacrifice fly scored Ridding and Smith scored on another error.

Dylan Chuck, batting again in the same dig popped a shot out to centerfield and was batted in when Alex Ridding also hit deep to leftfield before the inning was closed out by the defensive team but not after a huge ten runs were scored.

The black and white stretched the lead by another two in the next inning.

Colby Muller picked up a second consecutive safety, Bree Ridding picked a walk, Muller was batted in by Kyall McClean and Ridding was batted in by Nathan Meinck.

The Indians started their run chase in the even second when Ryan Walter clipped a pitch out to centerfield to stand up at second.

He was batted in by young Levi Seager.

One more in the third for Central with Alex Ridding pumping a stand-up triple to deep centerfield and then scoring on a wild pitch.

South doubled their score in the even dig when Jett Lewis beat the throw from the third baseman and eventually scored on a passed ball.

Central went on another scoring spree in what was the last inning of the game.

Consecutive walks to Alex Ridding, Dylan Gull and Dave Harris loaded the bases.

Colby Muller was hit by the pitcher forcing Ridding home, Bree Ridding’s flyball to centerfield was put down scoring Gull, Cooper Smith on board from a fielder’s choice.

Kyall McClean hit safely to leftfield scoring Mulller, Nathan Meinck drew another walk which loaded the base once more.

Dylan Chuck at first from a fielder’s choice scored Smith, Alex Ridding also picked a base on ball which forced McClean across the plate, Dylan Gull was thrown his fourth walk of the game forcing Meinck home, Dave Harris’ beat out a short hit to the pitcher scoring Chuck with was the final run of the game giving the undefeated Centrals a twenty run to two win .

Central had 10 safe hits, 14 base on ball, 11 hit batters, 14 runs batted in and made 2 errors. South had 3 safe hits, 3 base on ball, 1 hit batter, 1 run batted in, 7 strikeouts and made 5 errors.
