Borderline Speedway season at the start line this weekend
The Borderline Speedway revs into action this Saturday night, kicking off the 2023/24 season with the South Australian Sprintcar Title, which includes the David Vears Memorial.
Current Australian number one Jack Goodyer, from Tasmania, headlines the star studded field, while Portland’s Brock Hallett also adds class to the field, entering the SA title race as the reigning Warrnambool Classic champion.
Borderline Speedway president Cary Jennings sad organisers were expecting up to 30 nominations for the sprintcar event, with former Australia titleholder Jamie Veal also expected to be part of the field, having snuck in a practice session at the Glenburnie track at the weekend.
The local Stark car will be in action at the titles with Daniel Pestka again behind the wheel.
The opening night will also see Formula 500, including junior competitors, and local street stocks in action.
The next meeting is December 9, with Ti Bills Wingless Sprints, Southern Street Stock Series and the return of junior sedans – a class where the Borderline now has a group of competitors which are already emerging this season.
December 28 sees the sprintcars back on track with the return of Sprintcars Speedweek that sees racing at Murray Bridge, Avalon and Warrnambool as well.
Speedweek was established to replace World Series Sprintcars, which has been in hiatus since COVID, with up to 10 United States drivers set to be part of the four night event.
Popular US driver Rico Abreu (pictured) is a confirmed starter, with the sprintcar feature supported by speedcars and the South Australia Modlites Title.
All eyes are on the January 18 meeting though which is the 30th anniversary running of the King’s Challenge – the Borderline Speedway’s premier, stand-alone sprintcar event.
The 2023/24 season will round out with a March 2 meeting, the SA Street Stock Titles on March 16, the always-popular Easter Sprintcar Trail on March 30 before the closing night on April 6, with the SA Limited Sportsman Title.
