Bourn breaks through for title

THE Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association held its last association championships for the 2025 season before the remaining minor round games and finals.

The championships being the Intersport/Colleen Pearson Memorial Ladies singles with 13 entries and the Pearson Family/Athol and Sue Malseed Men’s singles with 25 entries, which also incorporated the Ian Simpson Memorial Champion of Champions.

In the Intersport/Colleen Pearson Memorial Ladies singles semi final saw Glenburnie player Serena Bourn take victory from Post-Tel player Fiona Pearson 7 shots to 3.

The other semi final saw Kym Franklin from RSL & District beat the Saints player Veronica Opie 12 shots to 1.

This set up a final between Serena Bourn and Kym Franklin.

The game started of very even, over the first four ends with Serena leading by one shot.

But the last two ends Serena scored a three and a two consecituvly giving her victory and win the 2025 Intersport/Colleen Pearson Memorial Ladies Singles Championship 9 shots to 3.

In the Pearson Family/Athol and Sue Malseed Men’s singles saw the first semi final go to Post-Tel’s Craig Pearson over Post-Tel’s Zac Pearson 7 shots to 4.

In the second semi final Commercial Club player Michael Cameron beat Kevin Burn from Post-tel 6 shots to 3.

The men’s final between Craig and Michael was lined up to be a very close game, this is what it turned out to be with the scores at four each on the fourth end and then five all on the sixth end, the last end was going to decide the result.

With Craig dead drawing the Jack with his last bowl and Michael played a little over weight and took the jack off the mat to give Craig victory 8 shots to 3 in the 2025 Pearson Family/Athol and Sue Malseed Men’s Singles Championship.

This saw Serena and Craig meet in the Ian Simpson Memorial Champion of Champions something that both wanted to win with Serena going for her first and Craig for his fourth attempt with the last being in 2011.

The Champion of Champions game was expected to be close but the result was very different.

Craig scored on the first two ends to give him a four shot head start and then Serena was consistently drawing shot and won the last five ends to win the Memorial Champion of Champions for her very first time.

Serena won the silverware 9 shots to 4.

The Ladies Consolation semi finals Keisha Pearson (Post-Tel) defeated Nicola Bowditch (Saints) 8 shots to 0 and Lorraine VanDen Hoogen (Post-Tel) defeated Emma Freemantle (Blue Lake) 7 shots to 3.

The Ladies Consolation Final was won by Keisha Pearson defeating Lorraine VanDen Hoogen 5 shots to 4.

The Men’s Consolation semi finals Coehen Keppels (Commercial Club) defeated Steve Val Alma ( Moorak) 6 shots to 3 and Shane Finch (Moorak) defeated Tim Radley (Moorak) 5 shots to 3.

The Men’s consolation final was won by Coehen Keppels defeating Shane Finch 8 shots to 2.Junior Singles Championship

The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association held a Junior Singles championship proudly sponsored by Marie Pedlar on the same night with three players competing.

Callum Burgess from Blue Lake Bowlers, Casey Bourn from Glenburnie and Dulcie Bloomfield from Blue Lake Bowlers.

The three played a round robin with the winner of the 2025 Junior Singles Championship being Dulcie Bloomfield and the runner up being Callum Burgess.
