Mount Gambier Golf Club ladies tackle Olympic Trophy

At the Mount Gambier Golf Club 40 ladies participated in the 1st Round of the Olympic Trophy sponsored once again by Limestone Holdings.

The day was fine and warm making the scoring a little easier for the players with run on the fairways on an immaculately maintained course.

The best score of the day came from a Division 2 player, and a relatively newcomer to the game – Linda Boylan (Handicap 32) registering a very large total of 41 points, five shots under her handicap. Linda’s split for the two nines was 19/22=41 points. Two holes earning her 8 points, plus six 3 pointers which contributed to Linda’s great score.

Second placing in Division 2 went to Betty McKechnie (Handicap 30) with a good score of 39 points, consisting 18/21=39 points split with seven 3 pointers. Neither placegetters recorded any wipe-outs.

Division 1 first placing was taken out by Helen Gregory (Handicap 17) recording 39 points on her scorecard. Helen’s split was 22/17=39 points and included 8 Pars and 7 three pointers.

Division 1 second placing was Denis Harvey (Handicap 21) playing to her handicap of 36 points. Denise’s split was 16/20=36 points and included 5 Pars.

Ten balls were handed out to lady golfers with scores of 36 points – Jess Parson to 34 points Faye Mainwaring.

A ball was received by A Grade – Janina Morrision, B Grade – Jess Parsons and C Grade – Mary Kentish for their 2nd shots on the Par 5 1st Hole.

This Wednesday is the AGM at 8.45am followed by a Shot Gun start Stableford competition. The following Sunday, October 22, the Seniors Day for Men and Women will be held.

OCTOBER 14 RESULTS
Twenty-one ladies competed in a Par Round at the Mount Gambier Golf Cub last Saturday and scoring was very good.

Karen Foster won on a three way countback from Camilla Knowles and Janina Morrision Karen (Handicap 17) recorded 1 up on her scorecard, having square on the front 9 and 1 up on the back 9 with 90 off the stick. Second placing ,having lost the countback, was Camilla Knowles (Handicap 24) with a great front 9 of 3 up but fell away on the difficult back 9 with 2 down, thus finishing with 1 up overall. Six balls were handed out in the ball rundown and went to Janina Morrison 1 up to Gemma Winterborn 2 down. The Pro Shot on the Par 3, 8th Hole was won by Trudy Johnson.NTP on the Par 3, 16th Hole went to Bernie Jennings.
