Captain returns in good form
THE 30 women teeing off at the Blue Lake Golf Club in the fourth and final round of the Silver Salver sponsored by Metro Bakery and Cafe, on the previous Wednesday for the par competition, were grateful for the mild weather that greeted them once again after the previous day’s rainfall.
Anyone that plays golf will attest to par as their least favourite of golf competitions as it leaves no room for many errors but is a true indication of being able to playing to one’s handicap.
After a holiday in sunny Queensland women’s captain Annette Ford came back all refreshed and took the top voucher in Division One.
Ford played off a 27 handicap and finished 3-down after signing for 3-down on the outward nine with 1- plus, all square on the inward that included 3-pluses.
Josie Ashby had to settle for the second place voucher after a countback with Ford.
Ashby played off 20 and had 1-plus on the outward nine and par pluses on the 12th and 15th holes on the inward nine to also finish 3-down. T
hird on the podium was the ever consistent Helen Myers playing off a 18 handicap finshed 4-down, her scorecard showed 2-down on both nines.
It was pleasing to see Carol Melhuish back in the winners circle in Division Two taking out the top voucher after a four-way countback was necessary with Trudy-Anne Doyle, Kristy Janeway and Rose Case all signing for 4-down.
Melhuish played off a 38 handicap and scored five pluses that included a par plus on the 16th.
Doyle also played off a 38 handicap and had four-pluses and a birdie plus on the on the 2nd hole.
Janeway played off 34 and had 3-pluses on her card.
NTP 2nd shot on the 16th winners were Sue Agars (in hole) and Melhuish (2.30)
Two birdies were recorded by Agars 6th and Doyle 2nd with chip-in ferret prizes going to Bev Pascoe 4th, Agars 7th and Vivienne Wilson 15th.
AUGUST 2 RESULTS
In cold but mild weather 19 women contested the 2nd round of the Carlin and Gazzard Car Spa Winter Trophy in stroke format and it was the ever consistent Rosemary Martland taking the honours playing to her handicap of 71 with a fine 85 off the stick off her 14 handicap.
Her scorecard showed pars on the 2nd and 6th holes in her outward 44 strokes with pars on the 12th, 14th and 18th in her inward 41 strokes.
Women’s vice captain Ronda Edwards followed with 89 strokes off her 17 handicap signing for nett 72 that included pars on the 3rd and 15th with a fine birdie on the 12th in her splits of 47/42.
Third on the podium was club captain Helen Myers 91/18/73 with a par recorded on the dog- leg 15th in her consistent nines of 46/45.
In the ball rundown were Annette Ford nett 74, Karen Panagopoulos nett 75 and c/b Dianne Perryman nett 75. NTP on the 5th was Perryman (6.93), long drive on the 3rd Leisa Alderson and putts Martland.
