Central masters Legends event
THE 18th Annual Mount Gambier Baseball Masters is done and dusted.
Fine weather welcomed the eight visiting and four local teams to Blue Lake Sports Park for two and a half days with each team playing five games starting just after noon on Anzac Day.
Away teams included Adelaide Aces x2, Adelaide L’aces, Playford City, Northern Aces Blue and Grey from Adelaide, Diamond Dogs from Melbourne and Alfredton from Ballarat.
Local teams were Centrals, South Indians and two teams from the Mount Gambier Legends, who were hosts of the carnival.
The 12 teams were divided into two divisions each playing a full round robin series.
Seven games were played on Friday, 15 games were played on three diamonds on Saturday, and a further eight games were played on Sunday to round off the series.
Division 1 ladder positions were Centrals, Alfredton, Northern Aces Blue, Diamond Dogs, Legends Blue and South Indians. Division 2 finished in order Adelaide Aces 1, Adelaide Aces 2, Playford City, Legends Gold, Northern Aces Grey and Adelaide L’aces.
At the presentations held immediately after the last game, Mount Gambier Legends president, John Verrity thanked all those in attendance for their presence and for supporting the Annual Carnival.
He thanked all those who had travelled and wished them a safe journey home. Mr Verrity also thanked all who had umpired and scored over the weekend and the many volunteers who had spent time in the canteen, bar and ground maintenance.
He mentioned that it was impossible to hold such an extremely successful carnival without the efforts of club members and volunteers.
He also thanked the tournament sponsors, in particular the City of Mount Gambier who have been involved from day one 18 years ago as has the club’s other sponsors in City of Mount Gambier, Bakers Delight, She’s Apples Market, Da’leni Meats, The South Eastern, Collins Court Butcher, Mount Gambier Frozen Foods, MT Water, Precision Security & Communications and Limestone Coast Timber Floors.
The carnival presentation also saw two more names added to the Mount Gambier Legends Baseball Club Life Membership Shield, with Inaugural life members David and Lynne O’Dine presenting life member badges to club stalwarts Kerry Walter and Trish Fenwick-Taylor for their outstanding and continued hard work in and for the club.
NEW LIFE MEMBERSKERRY WALTER
Kerry has been an associate member of the Mount Gambier Legends Baseball Club since 2009.
She is the current Secretary and Public Officer of the Club and has been since 2012. Kerry has volunteered in the canteen at these tournaments since 2009 and in 2017 has supported Lynn O’Dine in organizing and running the canteen operations. During the past few years, she has organized the accommodation for away carnivals.
TRISH FENWICK-TAYLOR
Trish is an inaugural Associate Member of the Mount Gambier Legends Baseball Club. Trish was Club President for 2 years 2007 & 2008 Over time she has missed very few Legends meetings. She volunteers at all Club functions and Carnivals. At our own Carnival she greets all registering players at the door. Trish organized the team bags. She has many photo albums of Legends Carnivals.
