Championship battle a family affair

THE Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association held its third association championship, the Commercial Club Handicap Mixed Open Singles Championship on Thursday night.

The Commercial Club Handicap Mixed Open Singles Championship saw 43 entries, with many talented bowlers fighting for the championship title.

The first semi final saw Jennifer Bowering from Saints come up against Moorak’s Ken Stephens, with Jennifer winning 9 shots to 2.

The second semi final saw Bob Barr from Glenburnie defeated by Saint’s Gary Bowering who won 10 shots to 2.

The final then saw the meeting of the husband and wife combination of Gary and Jennifer.

Both Jennifer and Gary went through the minor rounds without handicaps.

Gary started of the best scoring three shots on the first end and had a lead of four shots to one on the third end and then Jennifer’s fortunes changed scoring three shots on the fourth end to tie things up.

Jennifer hit the lead on the sixth end by one shot and with her holding shot on the last end Gary had the chance to draw and level things up but just missed, making Jennifer the 2025 Commercial Club Handicap Mixed Open Singles Champion by winning 7 shots to 5.

The Consolation semi finals saw Zac Pearson (-3) from Post-Tel defeat Post-Tel’s Stephen Von Duve (-3) 8 shots to 4 and Craig Pearson (-3) from Post-Tel defeated Alan Stewart from Saints 5 shots to 3.

The consolation final between father and son was taken out by Zac Pearson who defeated Craig Pearson 9 shots to 2.
