Coonawarra Running Festival returns to November calendar

October 11, 2023 BY

The second Coonawarra Running Festival is coming up quickly on November 11 and the day will have something for everyone.

Running or walking races for distances of 1km, 6km, 12km and for the very keen runners there is a 21km event. All participants receive a medal and prizemoney for the top three placegetters in each event. Participants are encouraged to register early and currently there is a prize for registrations this month.

The first race of the day commences at 8am so get there early as some roads will be closed in and around the Coonawarra Park and route. The unique Wobbly Winery Walk is back again, with organisers mildly confident everyone made it back last year. It is commencing at 11.15am and takes Wobblers through vineyards to taste wine at six cellar door outlets – a fun, untimed event with each participant receiving a running bib and commemorative glass.

There is lots of fun for the younger family members on the day including a toddler race for a gold coin entry donation and a variety of characters including Lego man, Smokey Bear and Karak joining in the fun.

Remembrance Day shall be acknowledged at 11am.

Other highlights of the day will be the Show ‘n Shine vehicles co- ordinated by Jeff Pahl, more than 20 market stalls and music played throughout the day. The local Coonawarra Choir and musician Scott Finck shall both be performing and there will be plenty of food and a variety of drinks to make an enjoyable festive day at the Coonawarra Park.

A shuttle bus is available from most accommodation places and Penola and return – contact organisers for details of how to book. The event is held to raise funds and awareness of mental health, and organisers are inviting as many services and resources to make a display and/or presence in the Mental Health Hub. Contact organisers for further information if you are able to be part of the hub.

Funds raised from the event are held in Trust by Breakthrough Mental Health Research Fund to be utilised in the Limestone Coast community.
