Countbacks decide winner

THE Blue Lake Golf Club women played in the prestigious Club Foursomes Championship last week and was sponsored by Caffe Belgiorno.
It was played in good spirit and camaraderie by 16 groups of two playing for gross and nett prizes, as well as for the chance to represent the club in the upcoming South East District foursome’s championship playing against the winners from several other clubs to be played at a later date at Penola Golf Club.
The teams of Rosemary Martland/Geraldine Scott and Ronda Edwards/Karen Panagopoulos could not have been any tighter with both playing off combined/halved handicaps of 19 and both teams finishing with gross 96 forcing a countback (49/47) making Martland/Scott the victors and knocking out last year’s district winners Edwards/Panagopoulos (46/50) who were unfortunately going for a back to back win.
In the nett section of the event the winning team of Vivienne Wilson and Annette Ford combined very well off their 30 handicap to have even splits of 51/51 to give them a nett 72.
Runners up team Lee-Anne Medhurst and Helen Myers followed signing for nett 76.5 off their 20.5 handicap with splits of 51/46.
In the rundown taking fourth place was team Beryl Mahoney and Sue Agars nett 78 off their 24 handicap and fifth place was team Cherryl Hill and Carolyn Melhuish nett 79.5 off a 30.5 handicap.
