Downing dominates again
ONCE again the weather gods had their say on golf or no golf and it was a hard ‘no’ for the 2nd round of the Grant & Dianne Perryman short Course Trophy at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week so that event will be rescheduled.
JULY 4 RESULTS
Carol Downing (pictured) proved her purple patch of late is no fluke after topping the leader board again and also that the icy cold early morning start was no deterrent signing for a awesome +3.
Downing has been slowly reducing her handicap over the past month or two and will possibly see another stroke or two shaved off her 36 handicap.
Her outward nine consisted of three plusses nullified by three wipes, then coming home with 4 plusses and one wipe.
Second on the podium was Karen Panagopoulos also with a good score of -1 off her 21 handicap after starting with a birdie on the 1st hole follwed with a par plus on the 5th as well as another plus on the hardest hole on the women’s index the 6th hole.
Turning to the 10th plus 3 then striking a bit of trouble finally finding a par plus on the 14th along with five wipes.
Third was Josie Ashby, off a 20 handicap, and was the opposite to Panagopolous going over to the 10th -3 then able to bring it home with par plusses on the 11th, 14th, 15th and 16th holes to finish with a very respectable of -2 forcing a countback with Cherryl Hill, also -2, relegating her to fourth place.
Others in the ball rundown were Fiona Pulford-3 c/b Jayne Galpin-3. Nearest to the pin on the 5th winner was Panagopoulos (6.27) and the BB9 winner was Downing.
