Downing dominates Blue Lake again

Winners of 3rd Round of Marlene Lingham Memorial Stableford Trophy - Division 1 winner Rosemary Martland, second placed Ronda Edwards & third placed Helen Stratford and Division 2 winner Carol Downing, second placed Lesley McPherson & third placed Janine Dunn
IT was pleasing to see 30 women front for the 3rd Round of the Marlene Lingham Memorial Stableford Trophy at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week as conditions have been exceptionally cold of late and even though it was mild it was still very cool.
The ever consistent Rosemary Martland, who is rarely off the podium, again took the honours for division one posting 34 points off her 14 handicap making use of the still available run on the fairways.
Martland’s even two nines of 17/17 included pars on the 4th, 11th and 14th and only the 18th hole in the red zone.
Vice captain Ronda Edwards also did reasonably well off her 16 handicap scoring 32 points.
Her splits of 15/17 included pars on the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 12th holes and no pickups.
Third on the podium was Helen Stratford off a 20 handicap also had 32 points forcing a countback with Edwards.
Stratford’s 15/17 saw four three-pointers including pars on the 12th, 13th and 16th holes unfortunately there was a bit too much red ink on her card.
Division Two winner saw Carol Downing backing up her previous win playing to her handicap of 37 signing for 36 points.
In her splits of 18/18 it included two three-pointers and a four-pointer on the 6th, hardest hole on the women’s index, followed by four three-pointers on the inward nine along with two pickups overall.
Runner-up Lesley McPherson followed with 35 points off her 35 handicap and in her splits of 18/17 there were five three-pointers on the outward nine and two three-pointers as well as a four-pointer on the 16th on the inward nine unfortunately four pickups cost what could have been a even better score.
Janine Dunn was third posting 34 points off her 35 handicap gathering 20 points on the outward nine that included a four-point par on the 4th and two three-pointers with only one pickup on her card.
Nearest to the pin 2nd shot on the 14th winners were Rosemary Martland (.41) and Vivienne Wilson (1.83).
The pro-shot winner on the par three 5th was Lee Anderson (5.36) with the BB9 prize going to Carol Downing.
Chip-in ferret prizes went to Lyn Annand 2nd, Ronda Edwards 4th, Lee-Anne Medhurst 2nd, Trudy Herbert.
