Downing earns a date with handicapper

Division 1 winner Jaynee Oberer, second placed Josie Ashby & third places Dianne Perryman and Division 2 runner up Vivienne Wilson with winner Carol Downing.
IT was the running of the second of four rounds of the Marlene Lingham Memorial Stableford Trophy along with a catch up round of the Summer Trophy proudly sponsored by the Ary Bar and Bistro last week.
The 29 women teeing off at the Blue Lake Golf Club were happy to see the weather conditions very mild and rain free albeit a little heavy underfoot making the going a little tough but this was accounted for with the daily difficulty rating at +1 when all scores posted were over their handicaps with one exception – the score of the day going to regular Saturday player Carol Downing posting 38 points.
The winner in Division One was Jaynee Oberer signing for 33 points off her 27 handicap. In her splits of 19/14 there were three three pointers, including a par on the 5th on the outward nine and two three-pointers along with 2 pick-ups on the inward nine.
Second on the podium was Josie Ashby, whom we know loves golf in June, this time last year, 2024, it was a hole in one, having to be happy this year to be in the placings also after a win the previous week.
Ashby played off a 19 handicap scoring 32 points with splits of 17/15 that included two three pointers on the outward nine coming home with par three pointers on the 11th, 12th, 14th and 16th holes.
Handicapper Dianne Perryman (22) accumulated 30 points with two even nines of 15/15 that included two three pointers and a four point birdie on the 12th.
As mentioned Downing’s 38 points made her a clear winner in Division Two to win the top voucher.
Downing played off a 38 handicap and will have an appointment with the handicapper before her next outing.
Her 21/17 splits included six three-pointers and a four point par on the 5th along with only one pick-up on her card.
Vivienne Wilson was second on the podium recording 32 points off her 35 handicap after a countback was required with Trudy-Anne Doyle also signing for 32 points.
Wilson had splits of 15/17 with a fine four-point birdie on the 2nd hole along with four three-pointers on the inward nine. Doyle (37) had splits of 17/15 with six three-pointers and three pick-ups.
Nearest to the pin 2nd shot on the par three 2nd hole winners were Karen Panagopoulos (.17) and Johanna Gogan (.84) and the pro- shot winner on the 5th was Oberer (7.6).
Wilson 5th, Perryman 12th, and Jorja Morale 16th (Queensland GC) all registered birdies.
Chip-in ferret prizes went to Wilson 1st/11th, Janine Dunn 6th, Geraldine Scott 6th, Gael Ford and Lesley McPherson 15th.
JUNE 7 RESULTS
Unfortunately due to the extreme weather forcast there were only two brave ladies to venture out on the sometimes waterlogged course for the par competition.
Kudos to Leisa Alderson and Rosemary Martland for the dedication to their golf.
Alderson (22) scored five pluses that were unfortunately nullufied by 11 scrubs to finish 4-down. Martland (14) 11-down after pulling the plug on the last several holes.
