Edwards keeps getting the job done at Blue Lake
The rescheduled 3rd Round of the Short Course Trophy sponsored by Grant and Dianne Perryman was played in much better weather conditions after the inclement weather the previous week causing a cancellation of the event
The course held up well considering the previous days heavy rain, albeit a bit heavy underfoot. The short course golflink handicaps are reduced and Division 1 was 0 – 19 and Division 2 0 – 45 but can still be a challenge to score well.
Backing up last her previous Saturday win the score of the day came from Ronda Edwards playing off a handicap of 7. Her front nine of 43 consisted of only one par on the 5th creating a bit of work to be done crossing to the back nine and she was equal to the task with a nine stroke less score of 34 that included seven pars after bogeys on the 10th and 11th holes finishing with nett 70.
Cherryl Hill was runner up posting 83/12/71 with a very respectable 38 strokes on the front nine that included pars on the 3rd and 4th and a birdie three on the 8th, all par fours. The back nine 45 strokes throwing up a few too many bogeys amongst pars on the 10th and 16th holes but was enough to win herself a voucher.
Handicapper Dianne Perryman was 3rd on the podium posting 83/11/72 also struggling on the front nine with 44 strokes but able to reign it in on the back nine with 39 strokes, her card included pars six pars.
A regular in the winner’s circle for Division Two, Carol Melhuish, once again won herself a voucher after signing for 95/23/72 with splits of 47/48. A par on the 9th was a highlight but a few too many double bogeys unfortunately entered her game. Second placegetter Lyn Gill also suffered a few too many double bogeys on her card of 103/29/74 but did manage to par the 5th and 15th holes to finish ahead of Bev Pascoe 95/20/75 also having trouble with bogeys and double bogeys but managing pars on the 13th and 16th holes.
Nearest to the pin 2nd shot on the 14th par three were Edwards (div 1) and Pascoe (div 2). The proshot on the downhill 5th winner was Edwards. Birdie prizes awarded to Hill 8th and Johanna Gogan 16th. Chip-in ferret prizes were won by Melhuish 2nd, Hill 9th and Gill 11th. This week’s competition is the 4th round of the short course trophy in stableford format.
