Feeling the need for speed
Sprintweek concept to replace World Series Sprintcars this season
Last week, a new twist on a traditional favourite has been announced for the upcoming speedway season.
With World Series Sprintcars (WSS) being on hiatus for 2022/2023 the promoters and clubs at Murray Bridge Speedway, Borderline Speedway, Avalon Raceway and Premier Speedway Warrnambool have pleasure in announcing the SA VIC SPRINTWEEK.
Conducted between December 26, 2022 and January 1, 2023 the traditional Christmas-New Year crisscross from South Australia to Victoria is back. Details of prizemoney payouts will be released soon.
Drivers and teams can indicate their interest in registering for all four nights of SPRINTWEEK soon. “We understand that with World Series Sprintcars being on a current hiatus it’s important for teams, fans and tracks that we maintain that tradition and interest in racing between Boxing Day and January 1 at our venues,”Avalon Raceway’s Jeff Drew said. “We are working on the
prizemoney incentives for the four rounds and the SPRINTWEEK as a whole right now, as well as how we present the show for the fans and the teams.”
“We know that Speedweek in the past has become a staple diet of fans and teams with their Christmas holiday travel plans,” Borderline Speedway’s Cary Jennings (pictured) said, “It’s vital that we keep that tradition rolling in the absence of World Series currently. We are looking at revitalising the concept and re-branding it but at the same time still respecting the proud history that has made it so popular.”
