Finals race hot in south‑east footy leagues

With only one or two rounds remaining, finals spots are still on the line across the Limestone Coast, Mid South East and Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara competitions. SANFL Game Development Coordinator Heath Sims joined SEN Mt Gambier to break down the key clashes.

Limestone Coast: South and West look to lock in spots

The competition remains tight with multiple clubs capable of shifting positions. Millicent, Casterton and Penola all have the bye, leaving just two fixtures.

South Gambier hosts North Gambier in what shapes as a danger game for the Demons. Sims said North will be motivated despite being out of contention.

“North would love nothing better than to knock about South’s finals chances. But on their home deck, South should be too good,” Sims said.

The other local derby sees West Gambier face East Gambier. Sims expects West to prevail with finals on the line.

Mid South East: Hatherleigh tuning up before finals

The final round is set in the Mid South East, with Hatherleigh meeting Tantanoola in the match of the round. The Eagles will finish fourth and will be looking to build form.

“They’ve hit some speed humps along the way but they’ll want to take an improved performance into finals. Hatherleigh will get the points,” Sims said.

A milestone watch is also on, with Eagles spearhead Fraser Bradley sitting on 95 goals. “I’m tipping about the third quarter he’ll rock and roll those 100s for the season,” Sims said.

Elsewhere, Kongorong meets Glencoe, with the Murphies tipped to be too strong. Kalangadoo hosts Nangwarry in a rivalry clash, with Sims leaning towards a Magpies upset at home. Mount Burr faces Robe in another finals‑shaping contest, while Port MacDonnell has the bye.

KNTFL: Finals dress rehearsal for Kybybolite and Mundulla

The round 18 program is highlighted by Kybybolite’s trip to Mundulla. The two sides will meet again in the first week of finals, adding intrigue to how they approach this clash.

“Do you show your hand or keep something in reserve? At home, I’m tipping Mundulla to be too strong,” Sims said.

The other top‑end battle sees Kingston take on Keith in a one‑versus‑three encounter. Kingston are back in form and should claim the points at home. Border Districts meet Naracoorte, with the Eagles tipped to finish strongly, while Bordertown hosts Padthaway. Lucindale has the bye.

The results this weekend will finalise the ladder across all three leagues, setting up what promises to be an unpredictable finals series.
