Great opportunity for elite young athletes

October 25, 2024 BY

The Limestone Coast Regional Sporting Academy (LCRSA) is excited to announce the opening of the nominations for 2025, its eighth year in operation.

The program is aimed at nurturing and developing talented athletes in the Limestone Coast region towards their sporting goals.

The sports programs currently run in the Academy include AFLW, Athletics, Basketball, Cycling, Hockey, Swimming, Tennis and the individual Lonestar program.

The LCRSA employs local coaches that are supported with training programs provided by the State sporting organisations with which the academy partners for most of its sports.

The LCRSA currently partners with Glenelg Football Club (SANFL) for its AFLW program, SA Country Basketball, Hockey SA, South Australian Sports Institute (SASI), Aus Cycling, Swimming SA, Tennis SA, UniSA Mount Gambier Campus, M&G Hotel Group and Good Country Physiotherapy.

Throughout its eight years of running, the academy has had athletes come through the program and be drafted to the AFLW, represent at State and national level and secure a scholarship to play basketball in the USA.

Successful nominations will have access to a 12-month gym membership, strength and conditioning programs, skill-based training sessions with academy coaches, education sessions, a uniform, and a chance to further their sporting careers.

The strength and conditioning programs work towards building the athletes’ body in preparation for a career in elite sport.

The education sessions cover Sports Psychology, Sports Nutrition, Healthy Habits and other sport specific topics.

The Lonestar Program provides athletes with a strength and conditioning program as well as access to education sessions.

Athletes will be required to pay a program fee of $420 which will cover all the above programs.

The LCRSA has four main objectives:

-To identify regional sporting talent

-To educate and develop youth in the region

-To provide pathways to State and National representation

-To develop the skills of regional coaches
