Heaver does it again
A TOUCH of winter with wind and rain greeted 41 lady golfers at the Mount Gambier Golf Course last Wednesday.
Thirty-four ladies chose to play a Stroke Competition for the May Monthly Medal and, once again earning herself her 5th Monthly Medal, was Helen Heaver (Handicap 20) with the best score of the day with nett 74.
Helen has mastered playing stroke and her score of 46/48=94=nett 74,including a birdie on the 6th, Par 3 Hole and pars on the 8th and 12 Holes aided her to win the medal.
Only one shot behind in Division 1 was vice captain Bernie Jennings playing off a handicap of 17 and registering on her scorecard a very consistent 46/46=92=Nett 75. Bernie recorded five pars.
In first place in Division 2 was Sharran Waters (Handicap 29) with a split of 49 front nine and 54 back nine.
An eight on the 14th Par 4 Hole denied Sharran taking out the Monthly Medal.
Second placing in Division 2 went to Mary Kentish (Handicap 26) 55/49=104=nett 78. Mary had a bad start on the 1st Hole but parred the 6th, Par 3 Hole.
Six balls were earned for good scores and went to Di O’Donnell nett 76 down to Kate McCormick nett 79.
The speciality prizes went to Rab Headlam, Mary Kentish and Lyndal McInerney for their Long Drives on the 18th, Par 4 Hole.
The Pro Shot went to Janina Morrison (38 cm from the cup) and the putting competition went to Helen Heaver with 27 Putts.
Seven ladies elected to play a stableford competition and the winner was Lynley Gray (handicap 44) with 34 points, made up of 19/15=34 Points.
LAUREL WREATH 2025
This very prestigious Laurel Wreath competition is a handicapped match play over several rounds and the winner this year was the Bernie Jennings.
Bernie played Janina Morrison in the Final and won 3/2.
It was a very tight match as ,after nine holes, the scores were all square.
However, after halving the 10th Par 3 Hole Bernie won the 11th and 12th holes and maintained her lead finishing on the 16th Hole.
SATURDAY STABLEFORD
A large field of 27 ladies played in a stableford event at the Mount Gambier Golf Club last Saturday in beautiful autumn weather.
Blitzing the field was Janina Morrison (Handicap 16) with an amazing 42 points, consisting of a split of 22/20=42 points.
Janina had 8 three pointers in her score and the handicapper will be lowering her handicap for her next game.
Second placing went to Blue Lake member Josie Ashby (handicap 21) with a very consistent score of 19/19=38 points and a genuine 92 of the stick. Josie carded seven three pointers on her scorecard.
Nine balls were earned by Bernie Jennings 36 points down to Bev Pedlar 30 points.
The Pro Shot was won by Penne Saffin and NTP by Deb Fowler.
