Stableford competition at Mount Gambier Golf Club
The Mount Gambier Golf Club ladies AGM was held last Wednesday with a new committee elected with Lizzie Clements being nominated and accepted as the lady captain for 2023-24. The retiring captain Jan Shanahan was given many thanks for her two year stint. Jan managed her captaincy with competency and fairness and can retire knowing that it was a job well done.
The beautiful weather, 25 degrees, contributed to 45 ladies teeing off and many good scores were recorded in a Stableford competition, genersusly sponsored by Peter Dempsey.
Eleven ladies played to their handicap or better with the best score of the day going to Lyn Hudson, 97-31-66 = 43 points, playing 7 shots under her handicap. Lyn had a wonderful back nine with 24 points and 19 points on the front nine = 43 points, including 6 three pointers recorded on the difficult back nine.
Second best score of the day, the oft mentioned in our results, Janina Morrison, 87-19-68 nett = 41 points. Janina’s purple patch continues and she had a birdie on the 17th par five hole, plus 8 three pointers. Her split for the two nines was 23/18 points.
In third placing Sue Ryan, 106- 36-70 nett = 39 points, equating to 3 under her handicap. Sue had 9 three pointers with a split of 21/18 points, playing very consistent golf to chalk up her 39 points.
There were 12 balls handed out to Lois Harvey 38 points down to Jane Lamont 35 points.
Denise Harvey collected three balls for her shot into the 8th par 3 hole which is the Pro Shot hole.
Second shot onto the Par 3, 10th Hole, the placings went to A Grade – Bernie Jennings and C Grade Betty McKechnie.
This Wednesday, the lady golfers will be competing in the second round of the Olympic Trophy in the format of Stroke play.
OCTOBER 21 RESULTS
In very trying conditions last Saturday 18 Ladies teed off to compete in a stableford competition at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.
The morning ladies had the best weather and winning the competition easily was Lyndal McInerney, amassing a huge score of 47 points, her split being 22/25 = 47 points. Lyndal’s amazing score (11 under her handicap) consisted of 9 three pointers, plus a birdie on the 8th Hole earning another 5 points. The handicapper will be deducting shots off her handicap of 36 for her next game of golf. Unbelievable and well done Lyndal.
Still in her purple patch Leanne Hunt (13 handicap) had 37 points, 14/23=37 points. Leanne had 85 off the stick and a birdie on the difficult 12th Hole and she parred the last four holes.
