Local bowlers earn Australian call up
THE members from the Mt Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association have recently returned from the 55th Australian Indoor Bias Bowls National Championships in Warrnambool – Victoria.
With a different concept this year, the Ladies and Men’s Singles were an open singles event.
Fiona Pearson, Serena Bourn, Heather Glynn and Keisha Pearson made it through to the last 16 of 98 entries with Heather going one step further to make it to the final eight.
Fiona Pearson, Keisha Pearson and Sam Hawke represented South Australia in the Ladies Triples to win six games and have one draw and two losses, to win the silver medal in the Ladies Triples event.
The three had to win their last game to secure the silver medal and that’s exactly what they done beating the Queensland team 20 shots to 8.
Long time state representative Tim Radley finally claimed his first national medal in winning the bronze medal in the Men’s Fours.
Tim playing third to his skipper Leigh Huckel and their lead Ian Miller and second Paul Stockham managed to have five wins and a draw out of there nine games.
The three losses were by low margins one game by eight shots, one by twoshots and the other by oneshot.
Claiming the medal came down to the last day.
They only had to win and hope other result went there way and that’s what happened with the higher teams losing and them leaping into third place by one point.

AUSTRALIAN TEAM SQUAD SELECTION
Throughout the championships a squad of 14 men and 11 ladies were selected to try out for the Australian team.
Mount Gambier was lucky to have four players selected in the squad.
Keisha Pearson, Serena Bourn, Zac Pearson and Fiona Pearson were selected to try out for trials in Ballarat in January 2026 to make the final cut of seven Men & seven Ladies to represent their country in Port Sorrell, Tasmania in May 2026.
