The Mount Gambier Cycling Club (MGCC) recently wrapped up a highly successful three-event series at the Adelaide Superdrome, held over the past three months.

Designed to encourage track racing and offer country riders valuable experience on an indoor velodrome, the event saw enthusiastic participation and thrilling races. Approximately 50 riders competed in each event, showcasing their skills in both new and classic races.

Among the innovative events introduced were the Win and Out and Reverse Win and Out races, which added an exciting twist to the competition. Alongside these, traditional events like the Heart Starter, Keirin, and Moto Paced races were also featured, drawing on the rich history of track cycling.

The competition saw outstanding performances from MGCC members.

Niel van Niekerk clinched first place in the Senior A category and Jami Buckley in second, both demonstrating exceptional prowess on the track.

In the C Grade, Rob Mann and Matthew Opperman secured first and second places respectively, showcasing their competitive edge.

David Tye (pictured bottom right in red & white) took first place in the D Grade, with Martin achieving a commendable third place.

The junior categories also saw remarkable talent.

Molly Opperman shared first place in Junior B, while Phoenix Farmilo dominated the D grade, earning first place.

These promising young riders reflect the club’s strong future in track cycling.

Looking ahead, MGCC has already laid plans for a similar event in 2025, aiming to build on this year’s success and further promote track cycling among country riders.

The Mount Gambier Cycling Club extends its heartfelt thanks to all supporters, commissaires, committee members, and sponsors, particularly Subway Gepps X, whose sponsorship was invaluable in making the event a success. In addition, we thank Josh Harrison and Caitlin Ward for their assistance over the past three months in mentoring the junior riders.
