Locals dominate SA contingent

THE Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association will once again provide a large contingent of players in the South Australian State team.

Out of 48 players named in the SA team, 24 will represent the Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association – a record number from the association.

This year’s Australian National Indoor Bowls Championships will be played in Warrnambool from August 26 to 30.

Mount Gambier’s State representatives for the 55th Championships will include Bronwyn Hill (Lead Ladies Pairs SA1), Thomas Butler (Lead Men’s Pairs SA1), Coehen Keppels (Skipper Men’s Pairs SA1), Zac Pearson (Skipper Men’s Pairs SA2), Serena Bourn (Lead Ladies Pairs SA1), Keisha Pearson (Second Ladies Triples SA1), Fiona Pearson (Skipper Ladies Triples SA1), Jennifer Bowering (Skipper Ladies Triples SA2), Stephen Von Duve (Lead Men’s Triples SA1), Craig Pearson (Skipper Men’s Triples SA2), Veronica Opie (Lead Ladies Fours SA1), Shirley Gifford (Third Ladies Fours SA1), Heather Glynn (Skipper Ladies Fours SA1), Tim Radley (Third Men’s Fours SA2), Val Alma (Lead Mixed Fours SA1), Emma Freemantle (Second Mixed Fours SA1), Kevin Burn (Lead Mixed Fours SA2), Fiona Rochow (Second Mixed Fours SA2), Nicola Bowditch (Third Mixed Fours SA2), Tony Bowditch (Skipper Mixed Fours SA2), Oliver Devlin (Junior Boys), Jos Breuker (Reserve), Trevor Williams (Reserve), Nola Spencer (Reserve).

The State team travelled to Adelaide at the weekend for the last State practice before the National Championships.

On the Saturday prior to practice the semi finals and State Singles Finals were played.

Mount Gambier had three representatives in the finals.

Serena Bourn played Heather Glynn in the State Ladies Singles final, winning the South Australian State Ladies Singles Championship, successfully defending her Ladies Single title.

In the Men’s State Singles final Zac Pearson played Mark Hanrahan from Adelaide with Zak winning his first ever State Men’s Singles title.
