Locals win SE Ambrose Championship
THE popular SE Ladies Ambrose Championship was held at the Lucindale Country Club last Thursday with all season’s weather in one day.
The club’s members were very grateful to Tasco Petroleum who have kindly been one of the major sponsors of the SE Ladies Ambrose for 43 consecutive years.
The club also appreciated the ongoing support from the other major sponsor, family-owned Quality Wool, for their generous ongoing support of this popular event for 14 years.
It was wonderful two South East delegates from Golf SA, Deb Redman and Katie Lewis, could play on the day as well as Lucindale ladies patroness Issie Carracher.
The 21 teams of four ladies who played on Thursday represented majority of SE clubs as well as Royal Adelaide, Kooyonga, Kaniva, Apsley and Rich River.
Congratulations to the Millicent team Kirsty Bailey, Alex Lambert, Sue Agnew and Mary Winser who won the SE Ladies Ambrose Championship with 68 off the stick.
Gross runners up on 69 were Karena Higgins, Megan Watson, Rachel Smith and Rosie Legoe (Lucindale).
Third gross winners on 71 were Sharon Menz, Michelle Justin, Nicole Hocking & Kerry Gilkes (Lucindale) and fourth gross winners with 74 were Kay McKenzie, Vicki Pilgrim, Sandra Densley and Anna Dawes (Bordertown).
Congratulations to the nett winners with 57.85 from Beachport Thea Clough, Steph Roach, Jen Walker and Julie Moran.
Nett runners-up on 60.75 were Jacki Baker, Petrina Smith, Leanne Graetz & Vanessa Stone (Lucindale).
Lucindale’s Angela Malpas and Vanessa Clarke (Lucindale) and Dale Haw and Nicole Mitchell (Rich River) were third nett winners with 63.25 closely followed by Issie Carracher, Cath Macleod, Annie Haynes and Judy James (Lucindale) on 63.65.
A Grade longest drive winner was Karena Higgins; B Grade Jill Jacob (Apsley) and Petrina Smith was C Grade winner.
A Grade NTP winner was Alex Lambert, B Grade Jenni Walker (Beachport) and C Grade was Liz Redman (Beachport).
It was also RUOK day, a reminder to be mindful of others as a conversation can save or change a life.
The club was thrilled Bill Lively, from Quality Wool, could present the prizes.
Bill was invited to choose the ‘best dressed’ and although dress ups are optional, they add a fun and frivolous element to the day.
The winners were the Penola and the next best was Kaniva group Fleur Finlayson, Donna Vivian, Stacey Wallis Rabone and Kate Hood.
Fine weather prevailed after morning drizzle on Friday for the eight teams of four ladies who competed in our inaugural ‘Scrumble’ competition where all par 4s were played as a Scramble and the remaining holes as an ambrose competition.
The club was very grateful to Wise Farm Equipment for their sponsorship of this fun event.
The 2025 Scrumble Gross Winners on 73 were the Lucindale team comprising Karena Higgins, Rachel Smith, Megan Watson and Rosie Legoe and runners up on 75 were Bordertown team of Vicki Pilgrim, Anna Dawes, Kay Mckenzie and Sandi Densley.
Nett winners were Helen Cother, Jill Jacob, Leanne Dolling and Deb Frith from Apsley Golf Club with 62.125 closely followed by Keith team Mandy Stewart, Wendy Absolom, Alecia Hines and Pam Egal on 63.75.

Longest Drive A Grade was Anna Dawes, B Grade Leanne Dolling and C Grade Kerry Gilkes.
The Great Yakka Challenge is derived from the best nett score of the SE Ambrose and The Scrumble. The club is indebted to Tallageira Pastoral Company, Mini Jumbuk, Di Giorgio Wines and Henri Post Jewellers for their generosity and continued support of this fun and unique competition.
Congratulations to the winning Lucindale team Megan Watson, Rachel Smith, Karena Higgins and Rosie Legoe with a nett 123.75 very closely followed on 124.5 by Angela Malpas, Vanessa Clarke (both Lucindale), Nicole Mitchell and Dale Haw (both from Rich River).
Third was Lucindale team of Michelle Justin, Sharon Menz, Nicole Hocking and Kerry Gilkes on 127.25 and 4th with 129.25 was Bordertown team Anna Dawes, Vicki Pilgrim, Sandra Densley and Kay McKenzie.
It was wonderful to see so many friendly and happy golfers participating in these two fun filled days.
The Lucindale golf course was immaculately presented, thank you to our skilled greenskeeper, Don Thiele, for all the preparation involved.
Lucindale Country Club is also fortunate having an energetic and enthusiastic young committee, who along with cohesive members, take pride in ensuring these two days are enjoyable for all players.
A very big thank you to all in the kitchen who sustained all the players and the bar attendants for quenching their thirst on both days.
