Magpies return from Millicent with the points

MAGPIES UPSET BANDITS

In what could be the upset of the season Central Magpies travelled to Millicent for the Division 1 baseball game and came home with the bacon.

Magpies batted first and scored two runs. Cooper Smith dropped one short in the infield and beat out the throw, Brad Lynagh picked a walk, Josh Aston’s hit back to the pitcher was errored on the throw to first base allowing Smith to score and Lynagh crossed on Justin Tzioutziouklaris’ sacrifice fly to centerfield.

In the even dig Millicent equalled the score. Anthony Mutton singled to deep short stop and beat out the throw, Darcy Pink drew a walk, Jordan Johnson batted in Mutton and Pink hit the home plate on Phil Altschwager’s hit into an out.

From that point on it was all Central Magpies, scoring runs at will, including five in the third.

Justin Tzioutziouklaris hit a long ball to centerfield, Mitchell Cutting bombed one out to leftfield, Lauchie Tilley clipped a safety out to rightfield scoring Tzioutziouklaris, both Cutting and Tilley crossed the plate on consecutive pitches that got away from the catcher.

Jobe Harten clobbered a two bagger to leftfield, Cooper Smith lined a hit to centrefield and both he and Harten were batted in by Josh Aston and Magpies leading seven runs to two.

In the top of the sixth Jobe Harten drew a walk, Cooper Smith’s infield hit resulted in an error and they were again both batted in by Josh Aston.

Central drove the nail all the way into the coffin in the final inning, scoring a further six runs with 10 batters appearing in the batters’ box.

Lauchie Tilley picked a base on ball, Chris Roberts singled to leftfield, Jobe Harten’s hit to leftfield was errored, scoring Tilley, Cooper Smith picked a walk and Brad Lynagh hit a Texas Leaguer to leftfield which scored Roberts.

Josh Aston crunched a hit to centerfield pushing Harten home, Jake Turner’s infield hit scored Smith and finally Lynagh ran home on Mitchell Cutting’s deep hit to centerfield.

The Magpies had 13 safe hits, 4 base on ball, 2 hit batters, 12 runs batted in, 8 strikeouts and made 2 errors. Millicent had 4 safe hits, 4 base on ball, 2 runs batted in, 5 strikeouts and made 6 errors.CENTRAL PUT TIGERS TO THE SWORD

In the ‘ball game at Blue Lake Sports Park Saturday afternoon Central shut down Tigers, only allowing them to score a solitary run in the Tigers last at bat.

The black and white scored four runs in the first when five consecutive safe hits saw four batters home.

Josh Chuck, Patrick O’Hehir, Dylan Gull, Koby Chant, Alex Ridding all hit safely with the first three being batted in by the player following and Chant batted in with Nathan Meinck’s sacrifice fly.

In the second inning Tigers only allowed one run to be scored. Colby Muller beat out a throw from short stop and crossed home on Patrick O’Hehir’s shot to leftfield.

More pain for the black and orange in the third when Central piled on another six runs.

Four more consecutive safe hits, with Alex Ridding singling to leftfield, Dylan Chuck doubling to rightfield scoring Chant, Nathan Meinck’s single to centerfield scored Chuck, Kyall McClean hit safely to leftfield, Colby Muller’s hit into an out scored Meinck, Josh Chuck picked a base on ball and Patrick O’Hehir third consecutive single batted in both McClean and Chuck.

Central’s final and 12th run for the game came when Dylan Chuck plopped a safety out to rightfield and crossed the plate on Kyall McClean’s crunch to leftfield.

Tigers’ solitary run was gifted to them after Joe Sims found himself aboard on a fielder’s choice and scored on a wild pitch.

Central had 14 safe hits, 2 base on ball, 11 runs batted in, 3 strike outs and made 1 error. Tigers had 3 safe hits, 5 base on ball, 2 hit batters,9 strikeouts and made 2 errors.RESULTS
