Martland & Herbert take the win
The pinnacle of the golfing year, the 2024 club championships for the women, were played last Wednesday at the Blue Lake Golf Club.
The weather was a bit of a dampener at times but the scores were not.
In the Division One, the final between Rosemary Martland and Ronda Edwards proved to be a battle over 33 holes not quite going to the full 36.
Martland opened up the first nine holes to be 2-up then advancing to the next nine with six squared and three wins making it 5-up for Martland.
Going to the 19th Edwards was trying to make a move both having wins with Edwards taking back one from Martland the score now 4-up Martland’s way.
The last nine holes were now crucial for Edwards, squared holes 28th and 29th, a win each on the 30th and 31st, a win for Edwards on the 32 was unfortunately not enough with Martland taking the win on the 33rd hole 4/3.
In Division Two the battle was definitely on between Trudy Herbert and Jaynee Oberer going to the 27th hole as required.
Both have match play finals experience and didn’t disappoint going down to the wire.
The first nine holes saw Oberer 1-up then scores see-sawing in the next nine with four wins to Herbert and three to Oberer making it all square after 18 holes.
With the last nine holes crucial to both it was a mix of wins, loses or squared until the 25th was another square then the breakthrough came for Herbert with a win on the 26th then squaring the 27th to take the win 1-up.NOVEMBER 13 RESULTS
