Max headed to back-to-back national championships
Last month Allendale East Area School student Max Pitson competed in the SAPSASA State athletics competition, representing the Lower South East.
Held at the SA Athletics Stadium in Adelaide, the competition showcased the best young talent in SA athletics.
Max had an outstanding day, finishing first in his 100m sprint race in a time of 14.11 seconds; first in his 200m sprint race registering a personal best time of 28.53 seconds and was placed third in his high jump event, registering a height of 1.31 metres.
Max’s achievements qualified him to compete at the national championships which will be held in Sydney from November 28 to December 2, with the events in which he will compete yet to be confirmed.
This is the second successive year that Max is headed to the School Sport Australian Championships, having been part of the South Australian team last year when the championships were held in Launceston.
Last year, Max had enjoyed very little formal coaching but teamed up with iconic locally based athletics coach Sally Taylor to continue to hone his skills and 12 months down the track, that partnership has clearly borne fruit.
Athletics is certainly the focus for Max at the moment but he is also a keen footballer and harbours dreams of playing in the AFL for his beloved Cats.
