McQuade shows promise
The 2025 trophy competitions for the women at the Blue lake Golf Club have commenced after the events for the majority of the end of December and for January were predominantly stableford formats.
The first of nine monthly medal stroke competitions was played On January 29 in fairly mild conditions after the previous weekend’s extreme hot weather.
Monthly medal results go towards qualifying for the Club Championships at the end of the year.
This event was sponsored by life member Judy Collins and the overall winner was Sue Agars.
The course set-up was long and was a bit of a challenge for the majority, but it was Division One’s Sue Agars showing the way playing ywo strokes under the course scratch rating of 71.
Agars off a 21 handicap could not have been more consistent having splits of 45/45 that included pars on the 1st, 4th, 5th and 12th holes to finish 90 off the stick with a nett 69.
Runners-up was the ever consistant Rosemary Martland with 83 off the stick playing off a low handicap of 12 was able to have pars on the 2nd, 5th and 7th holes in her outward 42 strokes and pars on the 12th, 15th and 16th on the inward nine to finish with nett 71.
Back in Division 1 after a stint in Division 2, Bev Pascoe took the third prize voucher signing for 102/39/73 after splits of 53/49 with a par on the 5th hole.
Division Two players did have to use their handicaps wisely due to the long course and it was Janine Dunn showing the way with consistent nines of 55/55, two over on the outward and inward respectively off her 35 handicap to finish with nett 75.
Second on the podium was Vivienne Wilson refreshed after a holiday on the Gold Coast posting nett 78 off her 31 handicap and splits of 55/54 with a par on the 5th hole. Trudy-Anne Doyle was 3rd signing for 131/40/81 that included a nice par on the par 5 third hole.
A countback was required from Dianne Allen also nett 81.
Nearest to the pin 2nd shot winners on the 2nd were Div 1 Dianne Perryman and Martland(.48cms) Div 2 Dunn (.60cms). The pro-shot winner was Lynda Nannings (2.25cms). Special novelty winners for putting were Martland 26 and Wilson 29 with a chip-in ferret for Lynette Hirth on the 17th.JANUARY 25 RESULTS
It was the 1st round of the Jetts Fitness Mt Gambier Saturday Summer Trophy and it was won by new club member Renae McQuade.
New to competition golf her nett 62 will see her drawing the attention of the handicapper before her next outing.
McQuade signed for 107/45/62 with splits of 57/50 and included a par on the par three 16th.
Lesley McPherson 98/32/66 was runner-up after a countback with Jayne Galpin 99/33/66.
McPherson had 50 strokes on the outward nine and 48 on the inward nine with pars on the 5th and 15th.
Galpin, another new member had an excellent 47 strokes, five under on the outward nine with pars on the 2nd and 5th holes along with 52 strokes on the inward nine, square.
Other placegetters were Shelly Carne 109/40/69, Fiona Pulford 104/33/71 c/b Leisa Alderson 92/21/71. Novelty winners were Rosemary Martland for least putts and Kate Hommelhoff long drive.
