Medhurst wins medal
Panagopoulos continues rich vein of form
A stroke competition was held for the women at the Blue Lake Golf Club last Wednesday in conjunction with the 2023 prestigious Medal of Medals proudly sponsored by life member Patricia Fallas.
The recipient was Lee-Anne Medhurst who said she was very honored to be having her name engraved on the perpetual trophy. Medhurst had to go up against several other medal winners from throughout the year and will be recognised at the presentation night next month.
Individual divisional winners for the stroke round saw Karen Panagopoulos, who is in a purple patch, take out top spot posting 95/25/70.
The course is still playing a little challenging when going off the fairways and the good scores were well and truly earned.
Panagopoulos is playing consistent golf and putting down 49 strokes on her outward nine along with 46 on the inward with pars on the 3rd and 18th was enough to nudge out Lee-Anne Medhurst on a countback after she signed for 96/26/70 with splits of 49/47 and included pars on the 2nd, 7th, 11th and 14th.
Third placegetter Rosemary Martland is another often amongst the placings due to her consistency and presenting her card with splits of 44/44 including 6 pars off a 17 handicap was another good round.
Division Two winner Vivienne Wilson signed for 110/37/73 with splits of 58/52 that included a par on the 17th and was pleased to shave six strokes off her outward nine score to secure the win. Bev Pascoe 110/34/76 and Trudy Herbert 107/31/76 had to go to a count-back with the former taking second prize leaving Herbert third on the podium. Pascoe had a par on the 12th and Herbert on the 5th.
Nearest to the pin 2nd shot winners on the long par three 16th were Cherryl Hill (Div 1) and Trudy Herbert (Div 2). Herbert also won the pro-shot on the downhill par three 5th. Birdie prizes were won by Ronda Edwards 17th and Sue Agars from a chip-in ferret on the 15th.
Tomorrow will be a single stroke competition with a novelty prize of accurate fairway drives.
