Mount Gambier Rivals: Allen beats Stewart in Super2 opener
If the opening round at the Bathurst 500 was anything to go by, the Super2 Championship could well be a battle of the Mount Gambier born and bred drivers – Kai Allen, the reigning Super2 champion and Jobe Stewart, who is in his first season of Super2 after having won the Super3 championship last year.
Allen and Stewart showed glimpses of what might be to come in the 2024 championship race in qualifying for Sunday’s second race where Kai pipped Jobe for pole by just 0.0822s.
The two also battled it out in Sunday’s shortened race, which had two safety cars throughout the 40 minutes, with a bold passing move from Allen securing victory from Stewart to make a cleansweep and take maximum points for the opening weekend of racing.
Allen is part of the Eggleston Motorsport clan and Stewart is a rising star of the Erebus Academy.
