Mt Schank celebrates nine decades
Mt Schank Tennis Club marked a momentous occasion late last year as it celebrated its 90th birthday with an unforgettable evening of camaraderie, nostalgia, and community spirit.
The event at The Barn welcomed more than 40 guests, with a heartwarming introduction acknowledging the club’s founding date of November 22, 1934.
The evening emphasised the club’s enduring significance to the Mt Schank community and the dedication of its members over the decades.
Guests were reminded of the club’s values, emphasising sportsmanship.
Special recognition was given to the club’s life members—Lola Edwards, Dean Edwards, Brian Collins, Michelle Nicholls, John Ralston, and Kylie Boston—and apologies were noted from Cynthia Medhurst, acknowledging their invaluable contributions.
In addition, the gathering honoured the memories of John Cox, Tony Hunt, and Pam Wright, who have passed away, but left an indelible mark on the club.
Apologies were received from Bruce and Vicki Bain, who sent a heartfelt message expressing their congratulations and reminiscing about the great friendships formed through the club.
During the evening, guests enjoyed a visual journey through poignant photos from the last 15 years.
President John Ralston’s speech followed, celebrating the club’s rich history and its bright future.
A specially curated video featuring stories from life members was played, sharing their personal experiences and the profound impact the club had on their lives and the community.
A nostalgic video reminiscing the win of the ‘Legendairy Capital’ was shown, highlighting the community spirit and contribution of those that have contributed to the club.
One of the evening’s highlights was the ceremonial cutting of the cake by life members, with Lola and Brian leading the momentous task.
The club also extended heartfelt thanks to its players for their dedication, supporters for their encouragement, and sponsors for their invaluable support, all of whom play a crucial role in the club’s ongoing success.
Throughout the night, guests enjoyed a continuous slideshow of photos, celebrating the club’s past and looking forward to another 90 years of fostering sportsmanship and community bonds.
