New event gets tick of approval

THIRTY-TWO lady golfers participated in a new event at the Mount Gambier Golf Club, generously sponsored by Heather Barry, aptly named The Royal Round.
Golfers played six times each off the Red, White and Blue Tee Blocks.
The holes to be played off the markers indicated on the scorecards and to be played as a stroke round.
The weather conditions were very bad with very strong winds and heavy rain, thus contributing to very high scores.
The unflappable Jan Shanahan (Handicap 16) played as if the day was another calm spring day and with her consistency won Division 1 with 96 off the stick, giving her a nett score of 80.
Jan’s front nine was exceptional for the day, recording 46 off the stick.
Second placed was Carol Davis (Handicap 16) with a very consistent round of 46/52=98=Nett 82 with her claim to fame being a par on the 4th Hole.
Division 2 winner went to Jill Johnson (Handicap 33), who recorded 61/54=115=Nett 82.
Jill had seven strokes better on the more difficult back nine with 54 off the stick.
Runner up was Bev Pedlar (Handicap 23) with nett 87, a score which many players had pencilled in, but was lucky enough to win the countback.
Eight balls were given out in the rundown from Andrea Pegler nett 87) down to Di Norman nett 88.
The speciality prizes went to Heather Teakle for the Pro Shot on the 8th, Par 3 Hole plus Jan Shanahan won both the front nine and back nine for the for the best score on both nines.
Eleven of the club’s lady golfers went to Naracoorte last Friday to play in the reciprocal round of the Peweena Shield Naracoorte has won the shield back with winning 12 games against our 7.
The weather was good for the day and the club’s three winners were Jan Shanahan, Heather Barry and Sharran Waters with the captain Bernie Jennins halving her game.
OCTOBER 4 RESULTS
Last Saturday 19 ladies teed off in a Stroke Round/Putting Competition in lovely weather and better scoring was the order of the day after the dreadful conditions from the previous Wednesday.
Sharran Waters (Handicap 32) won the day playing one under her Handicap with 46/58=104=72 Nett/
In second place was Jennifer Van Rijthoven (Handicap 13) with 45/42=87=74 nett, pencilling in a Birdie on the 6th Hole.
Jan Shanahan won the Putting Competition having 30 putts.
