Nikki makes it six consecutive victories

In 2010, Mount Gambier’s Danny Habets won the inaugural Blue Lake Fun Run, taking out the blue riband 10.4km event. On Sunday, he showcased his long distance credentials, comfortably winning the half marathon (21.1km) – an event inaugurated last year when it was won by Australian representative Riley Cocks.

Tre Davis and Tye McManus took out the minor placings.

Johanna Pham won the women ‘s event in a time of 1:30:31, following in the footsteps of inaugural winner Olympian Izzy Batt-Doyle.

The biggest result of the day was Nikki Smart, from Lucindale, claiming her sixth consecutive 10.4km victory in the women’s Blue Lake Fun Run with titles in 2016; 2017; 2018; 2019; 2022 and Sunday – her stunning run only interrupted by the two year hiatus due to COVID.

Nikki’s time of 41:25 bettered her 2022 mark by almost 45 seconds.

Josh Cameron was a first time winner of the men’s 10.4km, with the 6.4km titles going to Jack O’Connor and Rubi Watson and the 3.4km titles to Harry Thomas and Maggie Collins, who pipped her mother Rosie to claim the victory.

Six hundred participants tackled the four possible events on Sunday with the Blue Lake Fun Run made possible by the naming rights sponsor OneFortyOne and the hard work of the volunteers from the Rotary Club of Mount Gambier Lakes.
