Pairs championships decided at the Bay
The Port MacDonnell Bowling Club has crowned its ladies and men’s pairs champions with Heather Richards and Carol Schmidt taking out the ladies title and Adam Wilson and Eddy Smith emerging the men’s champions.
Nine pairs competed in the Ladies Championship Pairs, sponsored by C Doddridge/L Vanderley.
In the first round Heather Richards and Carol Schmidt defeated the Robin Burley pairing, before going on in the second round to defeat Heather’s daughter Sherie Richards and her partner.
The Jan Dowdell-led pairing defeated Julie Beaman’s team, Marilyn Sutton’s team defeated Elaine Pruis and her partner and the Jennie Tilley-led team defeated Val Praetz’s team.
In the semi finals Richards and Schmidt defeated the Dowdell team to make the final with Jennie Tilley and Judy Grosvenor defeating the Sutton pair to also progress to the final.
In the 15 end final Tilley and Grosvenor got off to a great start scoring nine shots in the first two ends and by the 12th end scores were level 15-15 and then Richards and Schmidt scored five in the last three ends to take the title 20-15 in a very close contest.
Ten pairs contested the Men’s Championship Pairs sponsored by Eckerman Conveyancers/Forty Winks.
In the first round the Adam Wilson team defeated the Kel Butler team and the Wayne Dowdell pairing defeated the Keith Dowdell pairing.
The second round saw the Adam Wilson team defeat the Hank Sprakel pairing, the John Naismith pairing defeat Nick Negline’s team, Jim Phillpott’s team defeat the Danny Gaut pairing and Terry Seiler’s team defeated the Wayne Dowdell pairing. Third round action saw Wilson and Smith defeat John Naismith’s team to progress to the final and Phillpott and Moulden defeat Terry Seiler’s pairing to earn the right to take on Wilson and Smith.
In the 15 end final Wilson and Smith got off to a great start to lead10-1 after four ends and the 10 shot start was too great for Phillpot and Moulden to reel in, finally going down 15-11.
