WITH the course at the Blue Lake Golf Club having holding up well after the recent hot spells thanks to a dedicated greenskeeper, his staff and volunteers so it is to be expected if you hit the fairways good scores will follow.

Last Wednesday was no exception for Karen Panagopoulos, blitzing the course in a par competition finishing +8.

The majority of women playing in the 2nd round of the Metro Bakery and Cafe Silver Salver declared it a long course for par but the winners had no trouble all posting good scores.

As mentioned, Karen Panagopoulos with her great score of +8 was the outright winner in Division One and playing off her 22 handicap her score equated to 44 points on the Golflink handicapping scoring system and will certainly grab the handicapper’s attention.

Her scorecard consisted of pars pluses on the 1st, 2nd and 5th.

A chip-in par plus on the 13th, pars on the 14th and 17th as well as handicap pluses on the 6th and 18th holes scoring on every hole.

On any other day the runner up Josie Ashby could be forgiven thinking she may have topped the podium with +3.

Ashby plays off 22 and scored evenly on the front nine after a slow start of pickups on 1st and 2nd holes, squared holes and a par plus on the 9th to be all square.

The back nine was a different story picking up par pluses on the 10th, 12th, 13th, 15th and 18th along with a couple of pickups to finish with a positive score of +3.

Third placegetter Beryl Mahoney was also pleased to finish all square to the card off her 29 handicap.

Her front nine score was -1 after one pickup and 8 squared holes going to the back- nine to have four pluses, two pickups the rest of holes squared +1.

Division Two winner Bev Pascoe who seesaws between division one and two was happy to be on the podium after signing for a healthy +1.

Off her 30 handicap Pascoe had par pluses on the 5th and 16th holes along with handicap pluses on the 1st, 7th, 11th and 18th holes.

Carol Melhuish was another happy golfer finishing all square to take the second place voucher after a countback with Trudy-Anne Doyle.

Melhuish played off a 37 handicap and had pluses on the 3rd and 5th holes (-1) and unfortunately three pickups on the front nine but rectifying that with a plus on the 15th and eight squared holes (+1) to win the countback. Doyle plays off 39 and scored three pluses on the front nine finishing all square then another three pluses on the back- nine also all square after several pick-ups overall.

Nearest to the pin 2nd shot winners were Panagopoulos .80cms (Div 1) and Lesley McPherson 1.44cms (Div 2).

Pro-shot winner on the 5th was Johanna Gogan 10 mtrs.

Chip-in ferrets prizes were awarded to Lyn Gill 8th, Panagopoulos and Ashby 13th, Lee Anderson 15th.MARCH 15 RESULTS

It was once again an early morning tee off time the way to go the previous Saturday due to the extreme temperatures expected.

The annual Saturday Captain’s Trophy Day attracted a good sized field of 30 women to finish with a BBQ and presentations on the deck.

The format was stroke and it was new member Kim Smith showing the way with an outstanding score of nett 63 off her 42 handicap that will certainly drop a few strokes before her next outing.

In her outward 47 strokes there were pars on the 3rd and 9th holes then faltering a little with a bit too much red ink on the inward nine 58 strokes that included a par on the 11th.

Second was Fiona Pulford, also posting a good score of nett 67 off her 33 handicap.

Pulford scored pars on the 4th and 7th holes in her outward 49 strokes with pars on the 11th and 12th in her inward 51 strokes.

Another good score of nett 67 was posted by third-placed Cherryl Hill sending her to a countback with Pulford.

Hill had even splits of 47/47 off her 27 handicap and included pars on the 1st and 4th holes.

Fourth was Lee-Anne Medhurst 93/25/68; fifth was Geraldine Scott 96/24/72 and sixth Judy Hunter 116/43/73.

Nearest to the pin was Helen Myers (6.05).

Pro-shot on the 16th (13.45) and NTP on 14th (7.12) was Jayne Galpin, 2nd shot NTP on 2nd Vivienne Wilson. Long drives A (0-29) Galpin and Sue Agars, B (30-45) Pulford and Anita Klem.
