Panagopoulos wins second monthly medal

THE last of nine monthly medals competitions for the women were wrapped up recently at the Blue Lake Golf Club with the September winner Karen Panagopoulos winning her second one for the year advancing to the Medal of Medals with seven other previous winners.
Throughout the year the monthly medals were kindly sponsored by life member Judy Collins, Grant and Dianne Perryman and Bev Pascoe and will be presented at the end of year presentations.
The winner will have their right to have their name engraved on the prestigious Patricia Fallas Perpetual Trophy sponsored by Wayne Fallas. Mrs Fallas was a valued life member.
The stroke/monthly medal rounds also go towards the best three rounds to qualify for the upcoming Club Championships at the end of this month.
The stroke competition also coincided with the fourth and final round of the President’s Trophy sponsored by Scotty’s Loader Services Mt Gambier.
It was a dismal day weather wise but all winners were happy with their results especially the monthly medal winner Karen Panagopoulos also topping Division One signing for nett 68 off her 22 handicap with 90 off the stick.
In her outward 48 strokes there was a par on the 2nd and pars on the 11th, 15th, 16th and 18th in her inward 42 strokes.
Second was Josie Ashby nett 74 forcing a countback with Helen Stratford also signing for nett 74.
Ashby played off 22 handicap and scored 96 gross. Her splits of 50/46 included pars on the 2nd, 5th, 12th and 17th holes.
Stratford 97/23/74 only managed one par on the 2nd in her 49/48 splits.
Division Two’s winner was Beryl Mahoney with a welcomed return on the podium signing for 195/31/74 with a par on the 5th in her splits of 51/54.
Second place Bev Pascoe and third place Vivienne Wilson are regulars in the winners circle and once again fronted up.
Pascoe signed for 109/32/77 alas no pars but even scores on both nines of 54/55.
Wilson almost duplicated posting 113/35/78 with splits of 57/56.
Nearest to the pin 2nd shot on the 14th winners were Panagopoulos (1.20) and Johanna Gogan (1.70).
The pro-shot winner on the 5th was Dianne Perryman (.99).
Chip-in ferret prizes went to Jenny Bowman 2nd, Lynette Hirth 2nd, Sue Agars 3rd, Cherryl Hill 7th, Lyn Gill 8th, Carol Melhuish 12th and 18th,
Jaynee Oberer 17th. Martland scored a birdie on the dog-leg 9th. Least putts winner was Perryman 28.
Mention must be made of Lynda Nannings winning the C grade stableford event at the recent Mt Gambier Golf Club’s Open Day with 36 points along with Annette Ford runner up in B grade also with 36 points and several other Blue Lake women winning long drives and nearest to pin prizes.
SEPTEMBER 20 RESULTS
Eighteen women teed off in cold conditions when they contested the 4th round of the Carlin & Gazzard Car Spa Winter Trophy.
A few strategically placed pin placements added to the challenge of the course with only one to play to her handicap the rest just a few strokes over.
Rosemary Martland, a regular winner, played to her 15 handicap with 86 gross 71 nett.
There were pars on the 3rd and 4th holes in her outward 44 strokes and pars on the 14th, 15th and 16th in her 42 inward strokes.
Second on the podium was Helen Stratford 96/23/73 after a slow start recording only one par on the 5th in her 54 outward strokes making up ground in the inward 42 strokes with pars on the 10th, 11th, 14th and 16th holes.
Helen Myers was third signing for 94/19/75 with splits of 47/47 that included a par on the par five 17th hole.
Other placegetters were Renae McQuade 77 c/b, Ronda Edwards 77 c/b Fiona Pulford 77. Nearest to the pin winner was Dianne Perryman (6.20) long drive Martland, least putts Martland.
