A true autumn day with sunshine, clouds and wind gusts greeted the women at the Blue Lake Golf Club for a par competition resulting in a three-way tie in Division One.

It was the first of four par rounds in the Metro Bakery and Cafe sponsored Silver Salver.

Par competitions are not on the wish list of most golfers as it is a very unforgiving game allowing very few mistakes and is often favoured by the higher handicapper.

The Division One countback saw Cherryl Hill, Karen Panagopoulos and Ronda Edwards all signing for +1.

Hill was the eventual winner playing off a 27 handicap her card recorded four-pluses including a par plus on the par five 17th in her splits of -1/+2.

Runner up was Panagopoulos off a 22 handicap her card showed six-pluses and included par pluses on the 1st, 10th and 16th holes, her splits were 0/+1.

Third place was Edwards off 16 and her splits of +1/0 included par pluses on the 1st, 6th, 9th, 10th and 12th holes.

In Division Two the winner was Johanna Gogan scoring +1 off her 38 handicap and had seven pluses along with a birdie two plus on the dog- leg par four 15th hole included in her splits of -1/+2.

Following closely was runner up Lynette Hirth off a 42 handicap was all square to the card with splits of -1/+1 that included four pluses along with a par plus on the 15th.

Jenny Bowman happily took the third place voucher signing for -1 off her 45 handicap.

In her splits of -2/+1 there were four pluses.

Nearest to the pin 2nd shot on the 14th winners were Division One Dianne Perryman (1.14) and Division Two Janine Dunn (3.72). The pro-shot winner was Trudy Herbert (8.70)

MARCH 1 RESULTS

The ‘new to golf’ women had a taste of a par round and all did extremely well, especially the winner Anita Klem signing for +3.

Klem is slowing dropping her handicap of 39 and with four pluses on the front nine and five on the back nine that included a par plus on the 11th hole it will be sure to drop further.

Runner up with a good score was Carol Downing playing off a 40 handicap recorded +1, her front nine score of two-pluses and her back-nine +1 included par pluses on the 14th and 15th holes.

Third was Shelley Carne square to the card playing off 37 and recorded four pluses that included par pluses on the 3rd and 5th holes.

Carne did go to a countback with fourth placegetter Jayne Galpin off a 23 handicap also square to the card.

Fifth was Judy Hunter off 43 and sixth was Helen Stratford, after that also went to a countback both signing for -2.

Nearest to the pin was Lyn Annand and the BB9 score was Klim.
