Pioneers sign experienced guard
The OneFortyOne Pioneers 2024 roster has been bolstered by the signing of Sammy Fatkin.
Fatkin is a 180cm guard who has played more than 100 games across five years with the University of Montana and, prior to that, the University of Arizona.
A native of suburban Seattle in Washington State, Fatkin led Montana in points in 2022-23, with 361 and was the only Montana player to start all 30 games during the season.
She also averaged a career-high six rebounds per game through the season.
Fatkin achieved a career-high 28 points in a road win at Idaho State and had a 27-point, 10-rebound double-double in a win against Northern Arizona also on the road.
More recently, Fatkin signed to play professionally for the Girolive Panthers in Germany across the 2023-24 season.
Head coach Matt Sutton was excited that Fatkin will be joining his roster for this season and the mental toughness and competitiveness she will bring to the OneFortyOne Pioneers.
“We are really pleased to have Sammy join our squad; she is a versatile wing that will give our lineup great flexibility,” Sutton said.
“Recruiting Sammy, we had a small world moment as we found out she went to Glacier Peak High School in Washington State, a school often on the Tenison Woods College basketball tour.
“Since playing in the game against Tenison back in 2017, she has always wanted to visit Australia. Now she gets her chance in Mount Gambier of all places.”
