Quarter final time at Blue Lake
LAST Wednesday conditions were perfect for the women’s quarter finals of the 2024 Matchplay Club Championships at the Blue Lake Golf Club along with a stableford competition for non-qualifiers.
In Division One Rosemary Martland defeated Annette Ford 6/5 after Martland was 3-up on the turn to add another three wins on the 10th, 11th and 12th holes.
Next was Dianne Perryman versus Karen Panagopoulos in what was a reasonably closely fought match with Panagopoulos the eventual winner 4/2.
Ronda Edwards versus Helen Stratford was dominated by Edwards after turning 3-up with Stratford only able to have a win on the 11th and Edwards another three wins to finish 7/5.
Sue Agars defeated Josie Ashby 4/3 after a close 1-up for Agars on the turn to go onto have three wins and three squared to finish on the 15th.
Trudy Herbert defeated Dianne Allen 7/5 after setting up the win with 6-up turning to the back- nine to have a win on the 11th, square 12th and win the 13th.
Bev Pascoe defeated Beryl Mahoney 8/6 in almost the same fashion winning the first six hole, a loss on the 7th, win on 8th and loss on 9th.
Mahoney did have a win on the 10th but another two wins for Pascoe sealed the deal.
Lynda Nannings defeated Janine Dunn 4/3 after being 2-up on the outward nine holes then winning the 10th, 11th and 12th, Dunn was then able to win the 13th and 14th but the win for Nannings on the 15th clinched the win.
The other playoff march between Jaynee Oberer and Lesley McPherson was a win for Oberer on forfeit from McPherson due to injury.
The stableford competition for the 14 non-qualifiers saw a common denominator of 32 points for the top five winners creating a five-way countback.
The winner was Lyn Annand, secon dwas Trudy-Anne Doyle, third place was Helen Myers, Lucy Richards and Geraldine Scott.
Doyle had a birdie/ferret on the 15th along with chip-in ferrets for Lee Anderson 3rd and Scott 15th.
A special mention must go to Lee Anderson who scored a massive 46 points whilst playing in the South East LadiesOver 50s last Monday at the Blue Lake Golf Course.
Anderson did have a pickup hole but was very excited with the end result and the handicapper has scalped her handicap from 40 to 36.
The Annual Wayne Scutter Memorial Invitational event was played on Saturday, October 26, and in the women’s section, 22 teed off and the winner was Fiona Pulford 105/35/70 with splits of 55/50 followed by Geraldine Scott 97/26/71 after forcing countbacks with Bev Pascoe 102/31/71 and Josie Ashby 94/23/71.
Scott had splits of 47/50, Pascoe 49/53 and Ashby 45/49. In the rundown was Ronda Edwards and Annette Ford both nett 72.
