Rampant Roos etch name in history
West Gambier and North Gambier have inked their names in the history books claiming the inaugural Limestone Coast Football Netball League A Grade premierships with stunning, arguably, surprise victories at the weekend.
Casterton’s Island Park hosted the debut title deciders for the newly formed league with West Gambier knocking off the highly fancied Millicent line-up, overrunning the Saints in the second half to claim a comfortable 26 point victory.
And while North Gambier did win the second semi final in a nail biting one goal contest, most pundits expected West Gambier to bounce back in the A Grade netball decider but after dominating the opening quarter, the Roos were outclassed by the Tigers.
The other football premierships went to Millicent, who claimed both the Reserves and Under 14.5 flags, with North Gambier claiming the Under 17.5 title.
North’s drought breaking A Grade netball victory was complemented by claiming the A Reserve and 17 & Under flags, with Millicent taking home the B Grade, 15 & Under A, 15 & Under B and 13 & Under A, while South Gambier completed the perfect season in C Grade and West Gambier won an overtime thriller in 13 & Under B.
Attention for the Limestone Coast Football Netball League Board now moves to the integration of Penola in 2025 as well as ongoing negotiations with other clubs and the SANFL on further expansion of the competition.
