Remenbering “Bags” in style
LAST week sixteen Lucindale golfing ladies enjoyed glorious weather whilst playing in the Julie Bagshaw Canadian Foursomes.
It was about 54 years ago that Julie Bagshaw was involved in a tragic accident in Greece and this memorial golf day in her honour has been part of Lucindale’s competition for the past 47 years, with a pewter jug acknowledging the winners since 1983.
Her nephew, Tony Bagshaw, generously continues to support this day and the club members are very grateful.
Julie (affectionately known as ‘Bags’) grew up at Avenue Range and was apparently jolly good fun and so this competition is a timely reminder to enjoy golf regardless of outcome.
Vanessa Clarke was back at the club and hopefully she will play again soon.
Handicap Manager Nicole Hocking ran the with both the ladies captain and vice captain away.
Winners for the day with a nett 72 were Rachel Smith and Megan Watson who played consistently well including a birdie and multiple pars.
Runners-up were Cheryl Fitzgerald and Issie Carracher with 73.875, Issie was thrilled as she was a great friend of ‘Bags’.
Congratulations to all 3 NTP winners, Nicole Hocking on the 3rd, Jacki Baker on 12th and Cheryl Fitzgerald on the 16th.
Last Monday, they farewelled one of our most loved and adored members, Audrey Brooker. Audrey was a keen golfer, on the Ladies Golf Committee and silently contributed enormously to our club in many and various roles.
After retiring from golf, Audrey would often be a passenger in any player’s carts & enjoy the camaraderie post golf. S
he was always cheerful, fun and great company, it was a privilege to know and befriend such a beautiful lady – RIP Audrey.
Next week’s competition is the September Monthly Medal, kindly sponsored by the England Family from Shepherd’s Hill.
