Saffin secures victory
On a wet and windy day that amazingly turned sunny, twenty-nine ladies played a stableford round while three pairs played off in the Handicap Matchplay Championships at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.
Carol Davis defeated Lizzie Clements, Jeanette Braun defeated Jan Shanahan, and Bernie Jennings and Jennifer van Rijthoven went straight through to the finals.
In the stableford competition in Division One Penne Saffin (20) had a lovely 39 points and a little behind was Valerie Grubb (20) with 37 points.
Saffin’s round comprised three pars on the front nine; on the 3rd, 6th and 9th for 44, and three pars on the back nine; 12th, 17th and 18th for a total of 90. Grubb had 5 pars on the first nine; 3rd, 5th, 6th,8th and 9th, and one par on the 15th hole for a total of 92.
In Division Two Susan Ryan (33) had 36 points and Runner-up Sharran Waters (29) had 35 points. In the special prizes the Pro-shot on the 8th went to Val Grubb, the A Grade Long Drive 2nd Shot was taken by Bernie Jennings, B Grade Long Drive 2nd Shot was Kate McCormick and Long Drive 2nd Shot C Grade went to Sharran Waters.
The ball rundown included seven ladies from Vicki Clarke on 35 points to Kathryn Ewer with 33 points.
On Saturday, 10 ladies played a par round in very hot and windy conditions.
Heather Chapman (33) was the winner on +5 and Bernie Jennings (16) was runner-up with +3. The ball rundown included 2 ladies Lyndal McInerney with +2 and Penne Saffin on -1.
The Pro Shot was awarded to Mardi Goodes and the NTP on the 16th was won by Bernie Jennings.
