Seaside championships underway
Eight pairs took part in the Port MacDonnell Bowls Club Ladies Championship Pairs – an event sponsored by C Doddridge and L Vanderley.
In the 1st round, played over 12 ends, saw the Heather Richards pair defeat Sharon Perryman’s team, Robyn Burley’s combination defeat the Jennie Tilley duo, Judy Grosvenor’s pairing defeated the Dell Parsons team and the Elain Pruis pair lost to Marilyn Sutton’s combination.
The 2nd round saw the Richards pairing, which were the defending champions, account for Robyn Burley and her partner and the Judy Grosvenor duo accounted for Marilyn Sutton’s pairing to progress to the final.
In a very even contest over 15 ends and after six ends saw Grosvenor lead 4-3 and by the 10 end led Richards 10-4 and by the 14 end scores where level 11 all and on the last end Grosvenor scored one shot to take the championship.
The Men’s Championship Pairs was sponsored by Eckermann Conveyancers/Forty Winks .
Ten teams took part and the 1st round saw Rod Sutton defeat Danny Gaut and Lindsay Moyle defeat Dave Beaman.
In the 2nd round Rod Sutton had a good win over Chris Richards, Adam Wilson defeated Nick Negline, Jim Phillpot lost to Lindsay Moyle and Tim Wrightson defeated Kel Butler.
The 3rd round saw Rod Sutton and Phill Wilson defeat Adam Wilson to progress to the final and Tim Wrightson and Keith Dowdell defeated Lindsay Moyle to win their way to the final.
In the final, over 15 ends, Wrightson got off to a good start and after five ends led 6-2.
Sutton then picked up three to trail by one before Wrightson rallied again and picked up six shots to two and after 10 end led 12-9.
Over the last five ends Wrightson picked up eight shots to take the Championship 20-9, successfully defending their title.
