Season starts with mixed triples championship
THE Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association opened its 2025 season on April 10 with a Mixed Triples Championship.
The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association opened its 2025 season with the Miller Timber Joinery/Mt Gambier Isuzu Utes Mixed Triples Championship with senior vice president Fiona Rochow greeting all players.
Senior vice president Fiona then invited the association’s patron Athol Malseed to roll the first jack and long time association player Lorraine VanDen Hoogen to roll the first bowl to officially open the 2025 season.
The Mixed Triples Championship followed with 21 team entries, with the Glenburnie team of Milton Chant, Perria Davis and Serena Bourn defeating the Post-Tel team of Paul Wilkinson, Zac Pearson and Fiona Pearson in the first semi final 7 shots to 6,
In the second semi final the Blue Lake Bowlers team of Kevin Jones, Emma Freemantle and Thomas Butler took victory over a combined Kongorong team of Joshua Grace-Patching, Vince Mancuso and Shane Glynn 11 shots to 4.
The final had the Bourn team scoring two shots on the first end, and then the Butler team won the next four ends and then with the scores level on the sixth end with one end to play.
Butler’s team out drew the jack and Serena could not capitalise with her last bowl giving the Blue Lake Bowlers team of Kevin Jones, Emma Freemantle and Thomas Butler victory and claim the first association championship for the year, the Miller Timber Joinery/Mt Gambier Isuzu Utes Mixed Triples Championship 5 shots to 4.
In the Consolation Final it was the clash of the two Moorak teams.
The consolation winners were the team of Jo Gogan, Grant Wallace and Ken Stephens defeating the hard trying team of Carla Pannell, Kevin Pannell and Val Alma to beat them 6 shots to 4.
