Skipper puts pen to paper
THE Castec Rural Pioneers are excited to announce the resigning of Castec Rural Pioneers captain Kane de Wit for the 2026 NBL1 South season – thie first official signature for the 2026 season.
As an on-court leader of the Pioneers since 2023, de Wit’s continued commitment is a major boost for the club as we build our roster for the 2026 NBL1 South season.
Known for his leadership, consistency, and passion for the game, de Wit has become a cornerstone of the Pioneers program, both on and off the floor.
de Wit has played a pivotal role in driving the club’s standards, guiding younger teammates, and representing the Pioneers with pride throughout his career.
His re-signing ensures the Castec Rural Pioneers enter the 2026 season with a strong foundation of experience and direction.
With the 2026 NBL1 South season fast approaching, the Pioneers are focused on building a competitive roster that will excite fans at Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre.
The return of de Wit, leading the team into another campaign, sets the stage for a season full of opportunity and ambition.
de Wit said he is thrilled to return, adding that being part of the club’s new era under recently appointed head coach Pete Godfrey is a special opportunity:
“Excited to be back for season 2026,” de Wit said. “To be a part of the new direction for the club under new head coach Peter Godfrey is a great opportunity. I can’t wait to get back on court in front of the fans at Wulanda and look to compete for a championship once again.”
Godfrey said that securing his captain was one of his first priorities upon taking charge of the Pioneers:
“Kane’s re-signing for NBL1 26 was a priority after the ink dried on my appointment to coach the Pioneers,” Godfrey said. “Kane is a savvy play-making floor general with 200 senior games of experience under his belt.
“I’m looking forward to utilising Kane’s leadership and experience on and off the court as we build the roster and head into the season.
“He’s a ‘young’ veteran with some great basketball ahead.”
“Kane has been an outstanding leader of our club. To have our captain’s commitment as the club heads into a new era is hugely exciting.
“In 2024 Kane achieved 200 games, the first ever local product to do so.
“Kane contributes hugely to our club and basketball community both on and off the court.
“Through Kane’s commitment and leadership we believe the very best is ahead for Kane and the Pioneers.”
The Pioneers will continue to announce further signings in the coming weeks as the men’s and women’s squads take shape for the 2026 season.
