Tigers sweep the Indians
CENTRAL V CENTRAL MAGPIES
Sister teams Central and Central Magpies were pitted against each other in the early Division 1 game of baseball at Blue Lake Sports Park on Saturday afternoon.
Central number one pitcher, Dylan Chuck started on the mound showing that the league leaders were not going to lay down for their club mates.
He did however chew through some of the Magpies lineup finishing with fourteen strikeouts.
Undefeated Central were first on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first.
Consecutive base on ball to Colby Muller and Nathan Meinck with Muller batted in by Alex Ridding and Meinck crossing the plate on a wild throw across the diamond.
They added another five runs in the very next inning. Daniel Ferguson on first base from an infield error, Cooper Smith picked a walk, Colby Muller loaded the base on a fielder’s choice and Ferguson and Smith both scored on an error.
Nathan Meinck picked his second base on ball, Muller touched home plate on a wild pitch, Dylan Chuck (pictured below) also on base on a walk, Meinck was batted in by Alex Ridding and finally Chuck scored on a wild pitch with the Magpies breathing a sigh of relief after they made their third out to bring the carnage to a halt.
In the top of the fourth the Maggies got their act together in the batting box scoring three runs.
Josh Aston singled to leftfield, Jake Turner was hit by the pitcher, Mitchell Cutting slammed a double to centerfield scoring Aston and Turner crossed from the resulting hit to centerfield.
Mitch Cutting was the third run when he raced home on a passed ball.
Only one more run was scored in the game when Central lead off batter Colby Muller clobbered a long hit past the waiting leftfielder for a stand up triple and was batted in by Nathan Meinck’s sacrifice fly to leftfield.
All in all not a bad game as far as scoring goes laced with a little bit of everything.
Central had 7 safe hits, 6 base on ball, 3 runs batted in and just the 1 strikeout. Central Magpies had 8 safe hits, 1 base on ball, 1 hit batter, 1 run batted in, 14 strikeouts and made 6 errors.
TIGERS V SOUTH INDIANS
It was one way traffic in the late game at Blue Lake Sports Park in Division 1 baseball Saturday.
Tigers went unchallenged in six inning and two hours when they over ran South Indians in the final two inning to invoke the mercy run with a ten run to nil win.
Tigers pitcher, Joe Sims only required seventy six pitches to contain the South hitters to four measly safe hits as they didn’t put a run on the board.
Tigers scored their first run in the top of the third when Alex Lynch found himself at first from an infield error and eventually crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
They then cranked up their game in the fifth and sixth inning scoring the required number of runs to have the game called on a mercy.
In the fifth Jake England’s Texas Leaguer to leftfield saw him at first, Joe Sims also on first from a dropped infield flyball, Matt Thompson aboard on a single to centerfield which loaded the bases and Henry Martin hit to a fielders choice to third base which resulted in a wild throw and scored both England and Sims.
Kane Harrison then slogged a standup double to leftfield batting in both Thompson and Martin and finally Koby Stratman batted in Harrison.
The sixth was nearly as productive when Riley Parsons hit safely to rightfield, Jake England at the first corner on a fielder’s choice, a walk thrown to Joe Sims and Parsons home on an error.
Matt Thompson’s two bagger to leftfield batted in England, Henry Martins’ hit into an infield out resulted in Sims crossing the dish and the Tigers mercy rule tenth run came when Kane Harrison thumping hit to leftfield saw Thompson home.
Tigers had 11 safe hits, 2 base on ball, 7 runs batted in, 5 strikeouts and they made 1 error. South Indians had 4 safe hits, 1 base on ball, 5 strike outs and made 5 errors.
