Tightly contested monthly medal
The Mount Gambier Golf Club hosted 27 lady golfers last Wednesday to compete for the June Monthly Medal, in conjunction with 3rd Round of the Handicap Championship, 3rd Round International Bowl, Putting and the 1st Round of the Winter Salver.
The course played hard with T Blocks way back and pin placements in very difficult positions.
The best player of the day and winning the very prestigious June Monthly Medal was Helen Heaver (handicap 28) and her split for the front and back nines was a very consistent 51/51 off the stick.
Helen Gregory (handicap 16) was the unlucky contestant losing to Helen Heaver on a countback for the Monthly Medal. Helen Gregory won Division 1 section with an even 45/45 off the stick giving her 90-16-74 nett. Helen had five pars over the course of her game. Faye Mainwaring (handicap 14) kept it in the family as she came second to her sister Helen Gregory to take out second placing with 45/45/ also. Faye played the last three holes to par and registered 90-14-76 Nett.
Helen Heaver continued on her winning way to take out 1st placing in Division 2 with her 102-28-74 Nett.
Second placing in Division 2 was acting Captain, Lizzie Clements (handicap 28) with 109-28-81. Lizzie’s score could have been so much better had she not had a disastrous 11th Hole. Lizzie’s split for the two nines was 51/51 off the stick.
There were five balls given out in the ball rundown and went to Kathy Ewer, Marie Douglas, Di O’Donnell, Carol Smith and Bernie Jennings.
The speciality prize winners were for the 2nd Shot on the Par 5, 1st Hole and went to A Grade -Bernie Jennings, B Grade -Kate McCormick and C Grade -Libby Altschwager.
The Pro Shot on the Par 3 , 8th Hole and winning three balls was Lizzie Clements.
The June Putting competitions went to Helen Gregory with only 27 putts.
Next week will be the 2nd Round of the Hudson Plumbing and Roofing Stableford competition.
