Veterans tackle tough conditions

IN turbulent weather 47 South East Golf Veteran players went to Robe and found the course partly closed due to the overnight deluge.

They were able to play 12 holes, and then had a long leisurely lunch, collated the results, and got home in good time.

Millicent’s Ray Mathews recorded an eagle on the 9th, which is a rare feat for the veterans.

In this shortened round, there was a countback in Division 1 on 23 points between the three placegetters.

Kingston’s Brian Prosser came out on top from Peter Emetlis, Mount Gambier, and Sid Arkun, Beachport.

Division 2 went to Richard Benyon 19, Glen Tilley 18 and Rob ‘Tank’ Thompson also 18, a clean sweep from the Millicent boys.

The prized Ross Orchard Trophy was won by Tony Bishop, Kingston, and Rob Sims, Mount Gambier, and the NTPs were Milan Hodak, Brian Slape and John Reynolds.

Next week, the veterans are going to Millicent for the Glenelg Challenge Match, which was postponed from 26 May due to wild weather, before an event at Blue Lake on August 11, and Mount Gambier on August 25.
