Victory for Herbert
THE March Monthly Medal, sponsored by Grant and Dianne Perryman, along with the 2nd Round of the Captain’s Trophy, sponsored by Collins Court Butcher, attracted 32 women at the Blue Lake Golf Club on March 26.
The format was stroke and the medal winner was Trudy Herbert, who played to the scratch rating of 71 showing good course management of the long course set-up.
In the Collins Court Butcher event, Herbert played off a 28 handicap and in her 48 strokes on the outward nine she scored a birdie on the par four dog-leg 9th hole to then score 51 on the inward nine to finish all square with the card adding to her prizes winning the top Division One voucher.
A regular in the winners’ circle was Rosemary Martland taking the second place voucher signing for 84/22/72 that included a birdie on the 9th in her outward 43 strokes then coming home with pars on the 12th, 14th, 15th and 16th holes in her inward 41 strokes.
Third on the podium was Ronda Edwards 91/17/74 her card included pars on the 5th and 16th holes.
In Division Two it was another regular taking the top voucher, Janine Dunn, signing for nett 72 off her 35 handicap.
Her outward 53 strokes was square to her handicap with the inward 54 one stroke over. New club member and new to Wednesday competition, Sophie Johnson placed 2nd shooting 115 off her 42 handicap for a nett 73.
Splits of 60/55 included a par on the par fourth 12th. Vivienne Wilson placed third, signing for 111/33/78.
Nearest to the pin 2nd shot winners on the 14th were Division One Edwards (.89cms) Division Two Carol Melhuish (2.20cms).
Pro-shot winner was Edwards on the 5th (6.50cms) along with birdie prize winners Jaynee Oberer 4th, Herbert 9th, Martland 9th and 17th.
Other novelty prize winners were least putts Division One Martland (26), Division Two Melhuish (33) and chip-in ferrets Wilson 4th and 18th, Beryl Mahoney 5th and 15th, Dianne Perryman 8th, Herbert 9th.
MARCH 22 RESULTS
With five rounds in the Jetts Fitness Centre Mt Gambier Summer Trophy, Renee McQuade was the winner for the second time having previously won the first round back in January.
The weather was very mild and some excellent scores were attained especially by the top three placings.
The challenge came with strategically placed pin placements and it was McQuade making the most of her 38 handicap playing one under signing for nett 70 with splits of 52/56 that included pars on the 2nd and 3rd holes.
Second was Rosemary Martland 84/13/71 after a countback with Lee-Anne Medhurst 95/24/72. Martland had three pars in her outward nine hole strokes of 44 and four on the inward nine 40 strokes.
Medhurst scored a birdie on the 2nd and a par on the 5th in her splits of 46/49. In the placegetters it was 4th Helen Myers 93/18/75, 5th Cherryl Hill 101/26/75, 6th Kate Hommelhoff 102/27/75.
Nearest to the pin on the 5th was Cherryl Hill (birdie) 1.78cms. Long drive winner was Jayne Galpin and least putts winner was Helen Myers.
