Warriors in good form
Friday night saw Demons and Concordes United meet for the last time this season. Concordes, on a high from the previous weekend, where they bought Demons undefeated season to a stand still.
Demons started strong on the field and scored three outs in three batters with a line drive field from Simone Little at third, a fly catch from Billie Jones and an out a first fielded by short stop Kezia Feast.
Concordes met the standard allowing only one run home from Jones, with six batters facing the plate.
Demons rose to the occasion for a second field with three up three down with a K2 from Jones and caught fly balls from Feast and Little, leaving Concordes with no score on the board.
Demons faced the plate again, and United were eager to keep things tight, and they delivered only allowing Demons to score another two with ongoing pressure on bases from aggressive catcher Codie Jackway and then United were able to put two back on the board.
Manning started Demons off strong with a hit to left, and a three-bagger from Feast allowed Manning to score their only run for the innings. Going into the last innings both teams knew it was make or break.
Concordes put three on the board with their highest scoring innings, however Demons hit back with safe hits from Feast, Merrett, Little and Jones adding another four, leaving the score at 8-5 Demons way.
In the catch up game from late November, Bandits had a positive start in the game with a double to Maddie Redman, advanced on the single from Tilley Dohnt and scored on Bec Fox’s single to left field, but then a K2 from Karly Pearson shut down the innings.
Sam Brown led the batting for Concordes with a crisp three-bagger to left field scoring Pearson, then Brown stole home to score the second run for Concordes before Natalie Whitehead made a sharp play to end the innings.
Concordes shut out Bandits and then scored another two of their own and the match continued in a similar vein with Concordes dominating in the field and batting box to win 10-2.
Concordes United then took on Bandits, who batted first, coming out strong and getting runners on base with Chantel McDonald getting safe a hit second and Maddie Redman picking her pitches wisely gaining herself a walk.
United fought back hard with some great pitching from Dana Jones and some beautiful catches from Leonie McCallum at third.
United started strong with the bat, Jones getting herself on with a walk, allowing Dianne Wilson to hit a blinder to right field to get her first of three safe hits for the day and pushing Jones around the bases. Sarah Thomson come up to bat with her hit it allowed Jones to score.
Allana Feast up next placed a ball down third allowing herself to get on and scoring Wilson.
United kept strong with the bat scoring another three runs, but Bandits worked hard in the field with some great catches by Rebekah Millowick and Redman ending United’s run.
The second at bat for Bandits was strong, with Millowick and McDonald batting in runs for their team.
United responded with safe hits from Wilson, Codie Jackway and Feast secured them two runs taking the scored to 7-3 and from then on went on to dominate and take the match 15-3.
The Demons juggernaut rolled out after a gritty come from behind win against Concordes United on Friday night to face their historical nemesis in Warriors.
Billie Jones was clinical in the first two innings for Demons, only having to roll her arm over for six pitches in the first dig and gunning out Sarah Polderman trying to sneak a bunt with the Demons corners fielding back.
The tight work in the field continued from both sides before Warriors eventually opened the floodgates with Melissa Chuck singling, Caroline Bradshaw shrugging off leg soreness from earlier in the season to run out an infield single then steal third after McLean chimed in for her second hit of the day which scored Chuck.
Bruggemann hit a laser down Hart’s throat, Teresa Hatch made Jones work hard as she was walked, Koop singled then Queale and Polderman forced uncharacteristic fielding errors from Demons. Chuck’s second plate appearance for the inning was a walk before Bradshaw singled scoring two.
Demons scored their only run for the game in the next dig but the damage was done and Warriors went into the Christmas break with a 9-1 victory.
Wanderers met Concordes White in the last game before the Christmas break, both teams started slow with the bat and kept the field tight with minimal errors.
Concordes took advantage of an overthrow and allowed Ali Kreplin to score a home run by error putting a run on the board. the second innings saw the bats start to fire with Abbie Lovekin hitting a triple and putting wanderers on the board.
Wanderers field were on fire with Lily Clifford-Finch taking spectacular catch at shortstop and Emily little catching a hard line drive at third base exciting the crowd.
In the fifth Kate Altschwager scored her first safe hit for the season which gave White the confidence to add three runs to the score board.
Wanderers last bat saw safe hits from Jones and Little and veteran Rej Smith showed just how strong she is with a whopping home run.
Concordes had some ground to cover during their last dig at the plate and made a late comeback with some well placed hits from Brown, Tucker and newcomer Amber Smith.
Some aggressive base running followed by another home run by Kreplin saw them score five runs, their highest scoring innings for the game however,
It wasn’t quite enough to take home with win with Wanderers coming out on top with a score of 11-9.
