{"id":10299,"date":"2024-08-10T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-09T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=10299"},"modified":"2024-08-07T15:14:54","modified_gmt":"2024-08-07T05:14:54","slug":"local-mp-urges-community-to-have-their-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/local-mp-urges-community-to-have-their-say\/","title":{"rendered":"Local MP urges community to have their say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP is calling on residents in Barker to nominate a road or intersection in most need of upgrade by participating in a national road survey.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Pasin said the Federal Government had allowed the national road network to fall into disrepair with billions of dollars in funding cuts and delays since taking power.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAustralia\u2019s 880,000 kms of road network underpins almost every aspect of our lives,\u201d Mr Pasin said. \u201cFrom getting to and from work and school to getting produce off the farm and off to market, a good road network underpins the efficient and safe movement of people and goods and it\u2019s critical to competing in a global market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMotorists take responsibility for ensuring their vehicle is roadworthy and pay taxes and charges for the privilege to use our road network. In turn, a core responsibility of government is to ensure the road network is up to standard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Pasin cited $27.9 billion worth of infrastructure projects that have been cancelled, cut and delayed in the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>He said roads throughout the Barker weren\u2019t receiving the maintenance and upgrades they need, and the impacts of Federal Government funding cuts were being felt by road users and residents firsthand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs someone who drives over 100,000 kms per year on Barker roads, I know first-hand how terrible some parts of the road network have become,\u201d Mr Pasin said. \u201cI\u2019m calling on the residents of Barker to help shine a light on the appalling condition of our roads by taking part in this national survey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Pasin encouraged local road users to submit their views through the survey available at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.research.net\/r\/2HRHBV9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.research.net\/r\/2HRHBV9<\/a> The survey will be open until 5pm, August 30<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP is calling on residents in Barker to nominate a road or intersection in most need of upgrade by participating in a national road survey.
